As 1980s bikes go, the CB900 Custom is one of the most complex, mostly due to the transfer case. But, that's what makes it so cool! My hat's off to you , my friend. You've definitely sailed into harm's way.

Those 2 long bolts are actually dual purpose engineering: mounts and high strength frame cross support. You are doing great! Keep going! 😎

That's cool, I guess it makes sense. Thank you!

This is the same reason I bought myself the same bike, gotta enjoy the journey for sure. I’m even more of a nooby than you so I’ve got a long way to go, thanks for the vid!

I'm pulling the engine on mine right now too and I found that my wire harness was melted together in the exact same way! Must be a defect on the cb900s. Your video was super helpful. Thanks man!

Wow, that’s crazy! Makes me wonder what the root cause is. Good luck with yours! I’ve postponed my engine tear down for about a year now so it’s time to get some parts and put mine back together soon. Thanks for watching!

just bought my 900f over the past weekend. Interesting how different they made the 900C yet its still basically the same.

I do not know when this was posted, but why pull the motor and start tearing it apart if you do not know what or where the noise is coming from ? I will tell you , pull the side casing off on the left side where the starter is at . The 3 bolts came loose in the flywheel , take it off, clean it up good and put red locktight on it and tighten it back up good. Those 3 bolts will hit and make that kind of noise, I had to fix my 1983 cb1000c , you can find that on the internet what that noise is !!

Yes - the three bolts on the starter Sprag clutch come loose and make a lot of noise. With Loctite it is an easy fix. The difficult noise to fix is the shock absorber body to primary shaft connection. The 8 only damping rubbers collapse and make a noisy metal to metal contact. Just leave it - it will be noisy and run forever that way. What you must do it to take off the sump and clean out the rubber pieces from the oil strainer. I had to burn the rubber pieces out to clean the strainer. Do the strainer cleaning on a regular basis until all the rubbers have been cleaned out. I hope this helps - Gat from New Zealand

Well you made me feel old with "it's older than me at 1982" bit (add 24 roughly for my age) as for the colour bear in mind purple is a Royal colour. Everybody seems to be tidying cb900s up these days not a bad thing.

Don’t forget, you’re only as old as you feel! CB900Cs do seem kind of unique, not something I see all that often. Glad you liked the video!

Wonder if the cam chain adjustment was ever done or if valves were ever run?

the shaft drive output compliments the tachometer cable along with the 48c bolts in the abdomen.

I agree, I particularly appreciate the 48c bolts. Thanks!

Excelent video! Cheers form Buenos Aires, Argentina. Have more videos on this CB 900? Very interesting! I’m just starting with my own project on a CB 900 1980. Thank you very much!

Hello affricaflat! Thank you for your comments! It’s been almost a year and the engine is still disassembled on my work bench! It is next on my list of projects though so hopefully soon there will be another video. Good luck with your project, I’d love to see a picture or two. Thanks for watching!

Just happen to come across your video. I was given a 900c and I'm starting on it hopefully soon. I just retired as a automotive tech and was wondering if there are any special tools I'll need. Much appreciated
@thatlldogarage2 жыл бұрын
Hi Christian! I didn’t need any special tools during disassembly but I haven’t reassembled it yet so I might run into that problem soon. I’d suggest getting a good quality manual that breaks down all the steps for you and see what they recommend as helpful. Good luck with your project and thanks for watching!
