I remember I was backpacking from America to Panama that year. I was in Honduras when I noticed a newspaper sitting on a table next to where I was eating breakfast. I picked it up and saw that Nelson Mandela was on the front page and was finally freed. It brought tears to my eyes. The Honduran people looked at me rather odd and couldn't figure out why I was crying.
