19:00 'No-one was talking about mental health back then'. Cobain died in April, Basketcase came out in August 1994. Living through that time there was a huge void in alternative culture after the end of Nirvana, almost a collective depression. Im so glad Green Day were a positive force that got me (and many other 90's kids) into punk music and through difficult teenage years. Great people. 'Saviors' is really good. Great interview.

@@aaronjoshuas All depends what circles you travelled in. This was the period of the college alternative rock scene. It was far from depressing. Hell, I hung out at The Continental in Buffalo at the height of the goth scene, even that wasnt depressing, it was more about tuning in to what is going on around you. As far as Doug goes. He was the Sid of his time. Depression didnt kill him, heavy drinking and drugs did. Kurt didn't commit suicide because he was sad. It was because of heroin use. LOL Well, probably more because his wife had him whacked, but nevertheless.

As a journalist (and a Green Day fan), this interview fills my heart with joy. I've been watching all of Green Day interviews talking about the new record, and this is, by far, the best one. I love how you push them to reflect on the song writing and how this connects to who they were, who they were, and who they want to be. The meaning behind the records. First time watching this channel, but I had to say thank you for the great points/questions. Wish the interview was even longer.

Woodstock 94 I was a 24 years old and totally into the deadhead world since I was 15. There were two stages and the smaller stage was more of the hippie bands. I believe that Green Day was not on the schedule for that stage. When they came out, most of the crowd were hippies and they hated them. At first a lot of the mud thrown at them was meant to make them go away but to me, the mud slinging showed that these punkers were hippies at heart. I think it was Basketcase that won me over and I have been a Green Day fan ever since. Im not sure if that would have happened until much later with American Idiot if I didnt experience them at Woodstock 94. Insane that was 30 years ago.

I’m so glad they are working to evolve with their age as time goes on. Like it’s really cool that the Rolling Stones are still playing shows and rocking… But there is a disconnect between the music the lyrics and what you’re actually seeing and hearing. Another artist that comes from the punk rock scene who does this well - is Johnny Rotten. in some ways he hasn’t changed a bit and it’s because of his intelligence and intuitiveness that he evolves his message for the time and place. It doesn’t matter what celebrities think in general but great musicians tend to have perspectives worth listening to.
