Still one of the greatest bands ever! They were my gateway from Nirvana and into a million punk bands 20 years later! And they still put out sick albums & have great personalities.

Agreed entirely. I got into Green Day in 93-94, but NOFX is the band that really turned me onto Punk, not just a style of music, but an attitude.

It was good to hear from Smelly for once because he's usually in the background and not saying much or being overpowered by fatmike or hefe. He's probably one of the best drummers ever in any music. I've listened to a million punk and metal bands and nobody does the fast punk beat like smelly. He does doubles on the kicks and accents on the hihats rather than straight 1234 like 99% of other punk drummers.

You should read their book. A lot of it is from the point of view of Smelly.

I dont know how he does it. He doesnt have a double pedal either. But I do know that part of the "smelly kick" is also the studio recording. When they mix the songs, they heavily compresses the kick sound, which gives it this really hard punch that makes it stand out so much more than other punk bands.

100%. I spent a good part of my youth trying to emulate Erik Sandin's style. Now that I'm older and actually decent drummer, I can still say that he's one of the greats.
@wraeclastjanitor88497 жыл бұрын
+Grayson Kilmer, you can clearly hear Sandin's double kick on live shows too, he has a great double kick technique. It's not just studio recording.
