Still one of the greatest bands ever! They were my gateway from Nirvana and into a million punk bands 20 years later! And they still put out sick albums & have great personalities.

Agreed entirely. I got into Green Day in 93-94, but NOFX is the band that really turned me onto Punk, not just a style of music, but an attitude.

There's a good anecdote in the book where Nofx are playing a show in 89 or 90 or so and some Seattle band were supposed to play early on but didn't show, and it was Nirvana.

It was good to hear from Smelly for once because he's usually in the background and not saying much or being overpowered by fatmike or hefe. He's probably one of the best drummers ever in any music. I've listened to a million punk and metal bands and nobody does the fast punk beat like smelly. He does doubles on the kicks and accents on the hihats rather than straight 1234 like 99% of other punk drummers.

I dont know how he does it. He doesnt have a double pedal either. But I do know that part of the "smelly kick" is also the studio recording. When they mix the songs, they heavily compresses the kick sound, which gives it this really hard punch that makes it stand out so much more than other punk bands.

100%. I spent a good part of my youth trying to emulate Erik Sandin's style. Now that I'm older and actually decent drummer, I can still say that he's one of the greats.

+Grayson Kilmer, you can clearly hear Sandin's double kick on live shows too, he has a great double kick technique. It's not just studio recording.

This is one of the most well told and simple to follow books I've ever read. I grew up in LA too and know all these spot and what they were like at the time so it really hit hard with me. After reading it, it fells like I watched a movie. I never knew that Smelly and I skated the same ditch "(Forever's"). I bought four more books just as gifts. A must read. Buy it!

You're not alone Smelly. We ALL have a past and have done things we don't want to share publicly. I know what I have done my entire life has been horrible. I too am a recovering addict/alcoholic. I am 100% honest and love each day as it is. (New and exciting) 👍 You guys have been an inspiration to me for decades. Not just because of the music but because of the stories you tell. You can tell that your lyics and songs are written from experience and formed honest opinions. I appreciate NoFx so very much. You guys are a part of me as much as my skin 😉 ❤NoFx❤
