Actually up until the early 2000's, the border of israel and gaza was pretty chill. People could cross over, go shopping, go to work, visit friends etc... My father always told me about the friends he had from Gaza and how he used to go visit them on weekends, and sometimes they stayed here in israel. They treated each other as family. Most of the older people still remember those good old days. A loud minority at the time (that sadly turned into a majority, because of years of brainwashing) is the only reason so many lives were destroyed. Right now I don't think it'll be possible to even go back to the border policy of before Oct 7 2023, where they could enter to work here... The trust is shattered to a million pieces on the Israeli side... Those who provided information to hamas are the younger ones who came to work in Israel and ruined it for everyone on both sides. The older generation remembers the good old days, I can only hope that now they can reverse the brainwashing and teach the younger generation that we are all human beings trying to live...

The IDF is securing them as they go to the safe zone, all the while risking their lives (amongst the civilians there are also cowardly hamas members trying to flee). Some of them died protecting the civilians in Gaza... As for securing the humanitarian aid that comes in, the world is against that. They believe hamas when they say that the IDF is targeting civilians trying to get the aid. I bet plenty of people are dismissing the cries for help from the people of Gaza, calling it hasbara or something, because it doesn't fit the narrative.
