Some people said they messed up the scanline filter and the fake scanlines look ugly, but I think it looks okay. I just don't like the smooth filter, it looks blurry. I'm glad SNK included a pixel perfect mode, it looks like they learned from their NG Mini mistakes.

A NGASP with Sanwa stick is all I need. The 20 (or 40) stock games would be to less (altrough I play mainly FTGs), so I hacked/modded it and now there are hundreds of games on it. A great system, I'm very happy with it.

@Ari D, the fact that the Stick Pro is cheaper in price, customizable, able to add games and portable in a sense, it makes it a very great choice to play SNK games! I play the games much more often with it than with the MVS system.

The NeoGeo pro for the price is awesome. The modding makes it even sweeter. I would say add a legit Sanwa or IL bat stick and IL buttons or Sanwa. I will say playing OG NeoGeo on an MVS with a 25”crt is hard to beat. But thats waaaay more money and room.

Great comparison. I'm so happy with my Arcade Stick Pro but the ONLY downside to me is that it doesn't have a couple of the games I was after (Double Dragon for example). Maybe I'm in the minority on this but I would be thrilled beyond measure if SNK would come out with a genuine AES Mini (or if a company like Retro Bit would make a modern Neo Geo clone like they do SNES and Genesis).
@johnnygames13804 жыл бұрын

the arcade stick pro is great with the hylo hack (all neo geo games). the only problem is that you can't do multiplayer with another arcade stick unless it's another arcade stick pro connected. Yea, you can multi play with a new neo geo CD pad controller but that's not the same as an arcade stick for fighters. If there was an adapter to use an original AES stick on an arcade stick pro for multiplayer then that would be amazing!
@pflink92 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say it's so great, games have a different aspect ratio, scanlines are worse and no title can emulate the memory card.
@TheFrenchy82 Жыл бұрын
Interesting. Now don't forget the this system is now roughly 30 years old ! ANY smartphone nowadays, can run MVS system. The only drawback , for the purist is input lag. it depends of your monitor / TV, your joystick... Now regarding price : I bought my AES day one (yeah I had some money back then...). Neo geo was always nicknamed the "Rolls-Royce console" for a good reason. Compare sound effects of a Neo geo VS a SNES... yeah "day and night".... Back then, cartridges (AES not MVS ) cost 250 Euros, new , most of the time (last cartridges with more memory were VERY expensive ). So the price can't really drop in the 21th century... It was a niche machine, with few cartridges produced ! The best period was at the end of the 90ies : MVS was dying and so the "professional" Neo geo system was pretty cheap back then. nowadays, it's not as "rough" as AES regarding prices, but it's really more expensive ... That's why you have some flashcard (neoSD) : it's VERY expensive but you invest only one time. Frankly, even if i like Neo geo, the best way is to play with an emulator. you can add some scanlines too (I guess OSSC can do this too..).

play the game with crappier stick/better stick and you will see the difference, but most neo geo run really well on emulation and combo with good stick with sanwa/seimitsu and buttons you will be more than happy over the old arcade machine. seimitsu 14g buttons would replicate the arcade feel experience

This might be a dumb question but for the neo geo controller on the cbox, how do you add coins so you can play, is it mapped to the select button on the aes controller?

If somebody can't get a CRT, then I think original hardware is ultimately pointless. The emulations they have are getting better and better for normal flatscreens, so I just stick to emulations and save on the insane money you need to spend for the "authentic feel".
@docnom4 жыл бұрын
crt has no input lag, you can play emulated pretty well in it but original hardware has its own touch the only way it can is by getting natyvely ported for example Mario 64.

How did you get all the colored buttons to be on the top?
@johnnygames13804 жыл бұрын
@Jack the gamer 3, switching the buttons on the NGASP is pretty easy. Make sure to lift the very small tabs for each cable connectors on the buttons (It will make the job way easier and minimize damage to the cables/connectors), slightly press on the sides of the buttons and push out. I bought the buttons here - focusattack.com/ - I will try making a video showing how to change the buttons and joystick soon.

Great comparison video! I've wanted a neo geo since the 90s .... I have an emulation arcade cab with every game and system possible but just never seem to use it. I would rather play on original hardware. I got into system modding and replacing capacitors and have acquired most of the systems I want except for the neo geo. I been looking to import a neogeo AES but you have to be lucky to get one under $400. So then I find out about consolizing the MVS boards and find out about the cbox mvs on aliexpress but even they are $300-400. I wish I would of known about the cbox a couple years ago when they were $180. Even the bare MVS boards are $100 nowadays..... Anyway.... Your video pushed me to order an arcade stick pro, luckily they are on sale for $100 on amazon right now. I've downloaded the hylo 1.2 hack and just waiting for it to arrive. I'm like you though, I still been looking all day at the cbox MVS systems because it would be cool as hell to actually have one of these systems I could never afford as a child. Maybe I should just wait until the arcade stick pro gets here..... Maybe I won't feel the need to dump $300-500 on original hardware after I play it. Great video! Its the only one I found giving a comparison on these 2 different options.

It offers a much cheaper entry price. Also most emulators have nice features like Rewind, save states, build in cheats, updates, version selecting, frame skipping ect.

On last word : don't compare the neo geo X controller with the "real deal", ie a genuine AES controller : it's not the same feeling, because you don't have real genuine arcade hardware. Sadly you can only find "tired" AES controllers ("the square" or the "bean"...) : buttons are smoochy, because the switches are abused. I don't know if you can mod an neo geo X controller (I guess, but ...) ??

The emulator on the pro arcade stick is lacking graphical power check out The Last Blade 2 the fire wave effect is missing! Now you can imagine on the other games lacking too. This Arcade stick console is really under powered compared to the original hardware.. The sound chips in the Arcade console stick is very GENERIC (tiny and flat sounds) compared to MVS or AES hardware of the original dosen't mix graphics or sound like emulators and everything else🎧. And Nobody deserves Neo-Geo cheap 🤑🤑🤑 Original hardware = Arcade high end quality Emulators= GENERIC low budget experience. I'd rather spend the money 🤑🙏🏼☯️🐲 The arcade pro stick is only better then nothing but for surely not better then or even close to the original hardware, in terms of how graphics and sound dopes the brain up 🧠⬆️🤯 I have a Neo-Geo AES 😎
