I'd say the handle on the BK7 makes it all around better, because it even has a pommel for crushing. The Cold Steel doesn't have that. The blade performance is so close on each knife that the handle alone gives the BK7 the leg up.

Why don't you put a ranger band on the Cold Steel....you did on the BK and it kept you from complaining about the too slick grips. Maybe one on the CS would have kept you from complaining about the too aggressive grips.

I don't like the top guard on the CS. Specially if you get stuck battooning a piece of wood and you have to baton from the handle side. Otherwise, I would take either one. I have the BK7, I didn't get the CS because of that top guard. I can see where it might be useful in a knife fight. But shiit, at my age I don't plan in getting in any kind of knife fight.

mikedifeo with proper technique, you will never have to baton the handle side. If you do, you're doing it wrong.

mikedifeo Or you could just baton at all, but it's your choice. The CS was designed to be used in a military role as a smaller version of their trail master. That's one of their reasons for the top guard. The other is that it's a historical bowie design.

I like these comparisons. Would really like to know which one keeps its edge the longest, and how quickly they sharpen up, and how hard it is to field sharpen them. I'm into scandi's largely because they're the easiest, by far, of the grinds to field sharpen.

Say Heah Tac't ie My People, Yeah, I have the BK-7, Infact I bought almost the whole line of BK's because the 1095 CroVan is the same as the 0170-6C that Camillus used to make Cold Steels CarbonV. Yup, Camillus use to make all the CarbonV Knives for Cold Steel. Then the big steel strike that closed down Camillus and Buh-Bye CarbonV. But what puzzles me Becker is still using that same steel and that's why I bought almost tge whole line. But I do have (2) Recon Scout's in CarbonV, one I use the other one is a Safe Queen. I always wanted a Trail Master in CarbonV, until I got my BK-20 Bundok Bowie and my BK-29 Moses Bowie, Yup after I got those, My desire for tge Trail Master in the CarbonV went away. But I do have a Vintage 1990 Trail Master in tge San Mai 3, they just don't make them like they use to. I simply love it. I think you was a little bias there Tact'ie My People, because I did tge same test and because the Recon Scout did much better against the lighter BK-7. No offense.,,. p

Tac, I would say "without" testing, you kinda prefer the BK. Which honestly surprised me as you usually seem to prefer the "no pun intended" tactical knife. An at least my opinion the bk, would be more survival, the Cold steel, more combat. An again my only point is I really thought you would prefer the CS. Either way love your vids, keep on brother.

How well a blade batons would not be a deciding factor for which blade won for me. The handle shape would make more of a decision. Both knives are good stuff so having a BK7 already I don't know if I would run out and buy the Cold Steel. Maybe I need one just for the hell of it.

There is a test out there,about the grip on the bk. Doing stab tests with the grip dripping in grease. And you dont slip on that grip. The ergos are just right,grip it with a little strenght and you dont slip at all. I like the standard grip,because they are not made off rubber. Slick gripps dont make any blisters after long use. Lots of chopping,whitling and stuff. You dont loose it eather when chopping. I also like combat blades to be easy to change positions quick without getting slowed down with rubber

Maybe you could put a ranger band/inter tube on the handle of the Recon Scout. The little inter tubes for road bikes should fit it well, I've used them for some of my knives. It might help round out the shape a little too.

I'd take the BK7 because I can always put on some scales to fit my hand if I don't like the way they fit. Can't say that about the CS.

I like them both, but i would go with the BK7 because it has a stronger handle. I heard many cases where the CS recon scout's handle came loose and the guard started to rattle.

the handle on the BK series is probably less likely to break while splitting wood. But I feel like I have more control with the narrower handle on the cold steel

Gotta be honest, brother; despite being a bit better at certan tasks than the BK, I'd still go with the BK7. Sure the C.S. was better. But not by a huge amount. And the big difference is, BK is full-tang. The Recon Scout is not. Just by their very design, the BK is going to be stronger overall.

It's only technically full-tang. It's actually just a much thicker, beefier, rat-tail tang. The BK is truly full-tang.

But how is there more material when the BK is actually full-tang. It's literally the entire knife with just two handle slabs? On the Scout, you can't abuse it nearly as much as the BK. The rubberized handle gets damaged, it can slip off. Now you don't have a handle. On the BK, you might crack a grip slab. Just use a tiny bit of duct tape to fit it. And you've still got a proper handle to work with. My BOB knife is a Cold Steel SRK. I love it, but the handle is similar to the Scout. And I've seen what can happen if an SRK is abused and the kraton comes off.

My hands must be different than everyone else's. I really like the handles on the SRK, Recon Scout, and the Trail Master. I like the extra grip, but it's not so aggressive to where it tears my hand up. I like the hilt on the Recon Scout too. It's like a poor man's Halo Attack, I dig it.

Could you reccomend a good folding knife and the SOG Visionary I & II used to be my favourite but it's discontinued now.
