Rob, I have an old Carbon V CS Trailmaster that was made back then, brass guard, engraved ricasso, not printed. That knife has been thru pure hell. I sent it back to CS in Ventura for a new handle and resharpening. Its about as old as your RS, made in the late 1980s. They were and are real world outdoor tools

I still have mine I got in 2004 or 2005. Haven't used it in years and it just sits in a box. Replaced it with the Ontario RD6 and RD9 (with The Knife Connection G10 handle scales). I should revisit the Recon Scout though as I just found it in said box. I'm wondering if mine is still Carbon V.

That was a cool batoning trick you did to get into that big log! I appreciate this type of video. In todays age of consumerism where people are focused on the newest gear it’s nice to see something like this where you go back and use old faithful kinda thing. It’s a shame a lot of gear and tools just go unused or abused/neglected because of the want for more and more.

Good one, Rob. I have a Trail Master in the SecireEx sheath. Essentially a same knife, just a little bigger. Good camp knife, not too bad for food prep, but even with enough thickness, not great at battoning-splitting. Would be fine with conifers but not with the white oak I use as firewood. That full flat grind makes it stick and wedge it in the wood too much. I am glad yours work for you. Enjoyed your content, Rob. Many thanks for sharing.

Thankyou as always Rob, I rekon you could have stopped at that knife many years ago, seemed like it performed just great. I aint trying to be smart cause I aint, but found out by accident, I removed the masking tape from my new file knife as I finished the sheath and just wondered if the masking tape would light with a ferro rod, blow me I tore a couple of bits down the middle and it went up first strike, tried again 3 or 4 times and whammy 2 or 3 at most, I mention this because I had a hell of a job doing it with duct tape even the gorilla tape they all rave about. Anyway just pleased the hell out of me, now tell me ya already done a video on it lol. Thanks again for putting up with the old git,love your channel

Back when Camillus was still a real company and made blanks for a few different knife companies as well. Case in point, Carbon V was an evolution of a Camillus steel that further morphed into 1095V that Kabar now uses.

Rob do you glue the para cord then use the inner tube and do you think it would work with the boker frakas it has a funny shape to it it has a swell then a steep dip. If I post a link of it would you have a wee squint at it . I forgot I had it so I took it on a tour of duty and remembered why I put it away lol there is hot spits all over the place lol
@RobEvansWoodsman
@RobEvansWoodsman 2 жыл бұрын
I didn't glue the para cord because the handle is rubber and relatively square but if I was putting it on a wood or micarta I would use double sided tape.

Love you reviews Rob. I must admit I was an amateur knife enthusiast but became a full blown knife nut after watching your videos. I had recently ordered a custom Damascus woodlore (to clone one of your bushcraft knives) but turned out to be a big disappointment. The knife maker did not know what he was doing and made me a knife with a small handle and narrow blade width which is far from a woodlore copy. It's probably the most expensive parring knife currently in the world haha. Anyways, out of frustration I ordered a Casstrom woodsman knife designed by your mate Roger. Then I saw the new Fallkniven F1 Pro Elmax and both are currently being shipped to me all because of your influence 😄

You make very nice video's, but... why is there at the end suddenly this horrible loud sound? It realy pisses me off, and wakes my wife up. By the way you are not the only one who does this at the beginning or the end of an video. Just as a lot of reviewers already at the beginning begin to ask for likes, without that one has seen the video. So, I got this off my chest, and got to say that for the rest I really like your comments on knives, therefor my warm greetings Rob!

I much prefer seeing knife stuff. I'm sick of the look what I got. Seems all youtube is now is a long commercial for overpriced junk I don't need. With a clown thinking he's a expert because he's making videos. Funny when I was young nobody called themselves expert. That's was a honor someone else gave you. Crazy times I guess. Like a computer guy is now telling the world what to do about viruses. So either money or a camrea an your a expert. Sorry for the rant. I truly enjoy your content. Just sometimes I start thinking and that really gets me going. Lol
