I'm not saying her cause isn't valid, but there are a ton of movies about women, that are really popular. For example, Gone with the Wind centers around a woman and it is one of the highest grossing films. She should turn her attention to pay inequality or gender issues that are actually an issue. She's just bitter because nobody wants her anymore.

Davis makes a cogent argument for how portrayals of women in scientific jobs can encourage girls to pursue STEM fields. How is that not an equality issue? Part of the reason why a pay gap exists between men and women is because women are less likely to pursue careers in the sciences. Geena Davis is an actress - of course she is going to concentrate on equality issues within the film and television industry. That is her field. It isn't as if her efforts are taking attention or resources away from other feminist causes. Davis used empirical data to make her argument. You have responded with a personal insult and an anecdote from nearly 80 years ago. Furthermore, Gone With The Wind portrays a negative and stereotypical image of women. You have inadvertently proven her point.

+Alicia Coburg Why can't a chick flick do well? Research and evaluate your data. How many blockbusters are made without an actress' character going out of the way. For example, how many superheroine movies have you watched? And how many are there that haven't bombed (Catwoman, Elektra). Don't insult someone who's standing up for a cause. Geena Davis has achieved much more than you have and has more dignity than you do.

So sorry Gina has spent her time counting men vs women in movies. Not the most important thing in the world. Movies are all propaganda, if I were her I wouldn't want to be part of any of it.
