I don't think any other CBSRMT writer created such complex scripts as Elspeth Eric did. They're so different from the others that I'm even surprised the show used them; the usual CBSRMT story is a fairly straightforward thriller or mystery or fantasy and then along comes an EE script that's invariably deeper than the usual fare. I respect the show for including material as good as this.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!! This story's main character speaks of her father's death so serenely. Even a Zen master with the raw psychic talent of Nostradamus would cry a river over the loss of a loved one, like we've all done many times!

You got me curious so I looked it up: Richard David Falco aka David Richard Berkowitz aka Son of Sam aka the .44 Caliber Killer began his shooting spree in 1976 and it ended with his arrest in 1977, two years before the original airdate of this CBSRMT episode. He claimed he was told to commit the murders by a dog living next door and that the dog was actually a demon but later admitted that that story was a hoax. Seems likely enough to me that the SoS murders influenced Elspeth Eric when she wrote the episode, as you suggested.
