These are very entertaining stories. How fun it is to this 78 YO man to curl up cozy in a warm bed and listen to them. I feel like a kid again. Who needs anything more?

I was given a brand new transistor radio by my parents, about 9”x 5”, for my eighth birthday. There was no way to use headphones back then - 1958. We lived just west of the Mississippi and only got a couple of stations. I used to have to share a bedroom with four other siblings (and there were another three in another bedroom.) I used to put it under my pillow at night and listen to a show called: “Stairway to the stars”. Stories and music programs. They were wonderful, and I loved falling to sleep to them! Amazing, the seemingly small things we remember from our childhood that we really enjoyed and stayed with us. Now at 71 I find them very comforting, and I am so pleased to have found these since I never heard them before! Thank you to whoever our benefactor is!

In another episode regarding poor sound quality, Chilly stated this and about 100 other episodes were recorded by Himan Brown and that this is likely how the others would have sounded if they had been digitally recorded.

Thank you once again for a great story it's just a shame the people that actually performed in the stories never really got the right recognition that they deserve. They at least deserve that, and thank you to the current individuals that are uploading these stories that I remember when I was a kid. Sleep well everyone..................

Tony Roberts starred in a half dozen Woody Allen movies. All of these actors were celebrated professionals in their fields at that halcyon time. Many would go on to larger careers. Morgan Fairchild appears in many of these.

The best episode of the best series ever! The audio quality is superb. I initially heard this story hosted by the great E.G. Marshall. Unfortunately the audio quality wasn't the greatest. It's interesting hearing Himan Brown's take as host. Himan brown also had a cameo role in this tale. If this story were a motion picture, I'm sure there would be a sequel. ChillySunshine, thanks for posting this classic horror tale.

I agree with you, this was the most memorable of them all. As a boy I would listen to my fancy transistor radio stuffed in the pillow, 10:07 p.m. the stories would start. Now, decades later I Google it and here it is. What a good basis for a Doctor Strange movie, this would be.

In some ways I prefer the recordings off the air that have that more distant, low-fi sound. Somehow adds another layer---a kind of patina---of spookiness. Something like reading a creepy story in an old book in which the pages are yellowed with age and a bit musty...I guess what I'm talking about is like listening to "antique sound".

This was a re-broadcast that was done in the early 2000s. Original producer Hyman Brown is the host instead of E.G. Marshall- Marshall had passed by the time of the rebroadcasts- of which more episodes were chosen.....I think they revisited select episodes on NPR for a short period. They ALL sounded this good way back when... provided your radio reception was decent. I usesd to listen to the originals on WCAU-1210 AM in Philly. Great memories !! This one is my fave- it scared my 6 year old self back then & I was hooked. The episode is kinda jokey now....but as a 6 year old ?
