As kids in the 70s, me and neighborhood friends would camp out in the backyard and listen to these stories. It was even better if it rained for a scarier atmosphere.

We could catch them in SE PA from WOR NY ... it would fade in and out sometimes.

same here ! I discovered this a year ago here and I listen everyday two or three shows a day while I'm puttering around outside.these shows were broadcasting when I was a teenager but here in California we never heard of these shows they were all done in the midwest or Chicago and the cool thing is one of the leading actresses Mercedes mccambridge was my babysitter when I was 5 6 and 7 years old so it was really cool to hear her voice on one of these programs and recognizing it immediately

Grew up listening to these most nights back in the 80's right after the 11 o' clock news on our local country music radio station for years thanks to my grandparents whom I both lived and stayed with as a child. Right after tea and toast. Never felt safer sitting at the kitchen table listening to the show with them or hearing it softly playing from their bedroom every night. It almost brings me the same amount of peace and comfort listening today as an adult.

Ok. I listened to this one before going to bed, THREE TIMES! I got lost when the lady went to find her husband, Dr Brooks. After Dr. Brooks woke up in the hospital, the nurse, and then??? I kept getting mixed up right before the end! I must say that the music scores in these theater shows, is really good! Ok, fourth time, but I'll start from what I do know! Watch me fall asleep! Good night from UpState New York..

@@GodISGood103 I never do! Usually, I'll take a break on a weekend day just to catch up with all the episodes I've fallen asleep to. It's the best thing I've found to put me to sleep, literally, within minutes! Before, I always had trouble falling asleep. Not any more! I hope you enjoy the plays, as well! Good night!

Growing up in the seventies my mother introduced me to these it then led me to look further into the old time radio broadcast which has become a hobby of mine till this very day in my late 50s I also remember the Tom Bosley broadcast also for General Mills great time heightened my imagination

Love this series. My mother had recorded it on to cassette when she was stationed in West Germany. It aired on the Armed Forces Network. So glad to see it uploaded on KZbin and of course the website with episodes in mp3 format. Just for fun - the short story this was based on was published in the year 1898. £100 is worth £16,629.33 ($20,584.92) in 2023 spending power when adjusted for inflation. Not too shabby for a day's labour..indeed.

This was one of the best plays I have heard this far, except at the very ending. I was confused, as to what happened to Brooks, since he was in a straight jacket, so who was that at the end, Faradey, or Brooks?

27 minutes 57 seconds... "Closet" - no Englishman _ever_ uses that word. (We would say cupboard). I'd give the actors 7/10 for a good effort at an English accent but it wouldn't pass muster for any longer than 2 or 3 seconds. The best English accent I've heard, is Forrest Whittaker in The Crying Game. His accent was a perfect south London representation. The worst accent (since the dawn of time) was Keanu Reeves in Dracula. How are English actors at putting on a USA accent? Hugh Laurie ("House") sounds reasonable but I'd like some feedback from a US citizen.
@shellilogan7712 жыл бұрын
we suck at doing English accents !! hahaha and by the way have you heard Herman Munster do Russian accents? oh my goodness ! lol!!! actually you'd be surprised at how many of these shows are depicted to take place in the EU or in Russia . and what I find very amusing is since there are not very many young men actors on the show they have really old ones you can tell by their voice lol play the parts of a young man it's so funny!!

Robert Shaw , as a shark hunter in "Jaws", is my favorite British actor/ US accent performance. He would have won an Oscar for Quint, but he was too outspoken. (The network was afraid of a raunchy speech!! )Rest well Mr Shaw
