It's simple. No owners want to pay higher taxes property tax every year and subsidize renters who want owners to fix things. I would rather sell my property then to rent. No one will build more properties.

@@user-kn9tt6ny3v go ahead and sell, I know for a fact that landlord's will never give up being a landlord to go and flip burgers. Also keeping the rent extremely high, will produce more homeless people and the government will raise taxes to create programs to help these people. Also eventually what goes up must come down because if tenants can't afford rent then they will move and who will pay these outrageous rents???? No body and next stop is foreclosure city.

They will sell the property and kick you out. The owners have to pay higher taxes to city then renters wanting fix things around property. More homeless.

Tell the government to stop raising property tax every year and STOP passing nonessential propositions. The government collects property tax, which is raised annually then that's passed on to renters. VOTERS ASKED FOR THE SERVICE. DEFUND AIDS FOUNDATION. The foundation gave out needles to drug addicts. They are littered in parks, playgrounds, and streets.

@@dayner989 It depends how severe the controls are. They should incentivize investors to build more housing with tax savings AND more regulation on rental increases.

It seems to me that things started going downhill in California after Prop 13 was passed, and is now spiraling out of control. REPEAL PROP 13 and pass fair tax laws to grow our state, not force people to leave.

2k a month for a 2 bedroom is a rare find. Near me that is a studio. Always look at who is funding the Proposition..anything on the ballot sponsored by The Apartment Association is suspect! Btw this is not exactly unbiased news.

It ultimately slows down housing construction leaving him with one of the few units left while demand continues to grow so more $$ for him.

Where is this affordable new housing because the new apartments in LA are 2700 to 3000? Is the affordable housing out in the middle of nowhere?

Uh, ppl on fixed incomes, senior citizens and disabled ppl are not likely to be able to buy a house even with help genius. Either will ppl working an average salary.🙄😑A good percentage of ppl will not be likely to afford to own a home and they need to be sure prices don't climb higher than they already have. People should maybe look further than just their privileged noses. Many ppl who rent msy never be able to own through no fault of their own.

Keeping rents high will only increase your taxes to help the homeless and create more government programs. Also your neighborhood will turn into tent cities with homeless people sunbathing in front of your house and watching your family go to school.
