Florida panthers had a natural mutation that made them all black. Evidence has been released that proves realistate and development companies broke hundreds of laws to illegally remove them from their territory and then build over their habitat. So out of state cougars were moved from Texas, to Florida to help stop the public outcry, just in case the sheep ever figure it all out. The black Florida panther is gone, and people are so very stupid.
@johnnymcblaze

@@Faron837 The wealthy support deregulation and increased pollution, because they live in neighborhoods away from polluted rivers and toxic facilities. The trick is, you have to convince half of the peasant population into blaming the other half for everything, that way there's no accountability at the top, because most discussions dissolve into mindless arguments about identity politics.

Bob Ross (The Joy of Painting) would be glad to hear this. Bob mentioned Florida Panthers a couple times during episodes of The Joy of Painting T.V. series that aired in the 1980s and 1990s. At that time, he said he could remember hearing Florida Panthers crying out at night when they were more common during his childhood growing up in Florida. He said that "They are sort of rare now" when the episodes were airing in the late 1980s-early 1990s. Bob died in 1995. I'm sure he would have been happy to learn that their numbers are finally rebounding.

While I am very much in support of efforts to expand the panthers in Florida, this story tends to give an inaccurate perception. The first Panther that I saw in the wild was over 20 years ago on the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. We had a environmentalist assigned to our project. He showed up shortly after the big cat was spotted and watched for about 5 minutes by a several of us. When I told him about it, he told me there were no Panthers on Air Force property. I protested and eventually he admitted that they were there , but if they acknowledged that fact, it would make it much more complex for them to remove the deer and wild pigs that had become a major hazard to traffic and aircraft on the runway. He said if they acknowledge that there were Panthers there then they would not be able to remove these animals because they were a primary food source. Additionally I have seen them near the st. Johns River area since then. The biggest threat to the Panthers is the non-stop development in Florida . In the last three years they built a high-speed rail line from Orlando to Cocoa on the east coast. Each side of this rail line has a 4 to 8 foot high concrete retaining wall topped with a 6 ft tall chain-link fence. It cuts right through the Tosohatchee Wildlife Preserve and the only Bridges are for rivers and other roads. This has essentially stopped all Wildlife Crossings going north and south. This article gives the impression that the only Panthers were in the Everglades in South Florida and that somehow this one Panther was able to "swim the river" and apparently crosses back over to breed as if no other Panther can cross the river. While the majority of the population is in the Everglades area and sightings are rare elsewhere, they do exist throughout much of the state of Florida.

This video was very misleading. These panthers were brought over from out west. They thrived and spread into Georgia. In spite of the development their numbers are not decreasing. They are migrating. They tend to be illusive but over the years we are seeing them in residential areas that are near their habitat.

@@sawboss5794 So, perhaps, the problem is not with the cougars but with the residential areas? And the reason their numbers are not decreasing (as they were in 1970s-1990s) are the corridors like the one they were showing and the programs based on learning their migration and feeding patterns. That's why their numbers are not decreasing today. From an almost weekly occurrence of Florida Panthers dying from car accidents we are down to one or two a YEAR. Or even less.

They did not say that Panthers did not live to the North of Caloosahatchee River. They said that females didn't live North of the river. The male migration patterns are far more expanded. They do wander in much much larger domains. Females stay in a reasonable proximity to their original area and their normal family den. So, I am not surprised that a male Florida Panther was found near Cocoa. But do you know if they had specifically found a native female (not a runaway) in Central Florida or Northern Florida? That would be interesting to know.

Florida panthers are a subspecies of mountain lion that ranged all the way west of the Mississippi to east Texas: they were found throughout the southeastern United States. Panthers and red wolves once roamed the southeastern United States as the top apex predator, but a combination of habitat loss and human/wildlife conflict led to the decline of Florida panthers with the only remaining population in the remote Everglades. Red wolves now only remain in the alligator NWR in North Carolina. Human habitat expansion is the reason we are losing wildlife. The more human populations grow & we expand into wildlife habitat, the less biodiversity/wildlife we will have. It should be our #1 priority in this country to Conserve, protect and manage our wild landscapes. We are losing habitat at an alarming rate.

I live about 3 miles from the Missouri River valley and I had a mountain lion walk through my yard and down the road. I live in Missouri. Mountain lions come down the river valley from Montana and the Dakotas.
