If it happened out of no where then yes garden equipment for a temporary use. Many people in t.v shows and movies make the mistake of using a gun first, its too loud. And depending on the equipment garden equipment doesn't last long. I'd rather have a bow and arrow. You can make the arrows yourself. So its basically unlimited ammo. If you live near trees.
