I sponsored my brother to come to the United States to reunite with my parents, after filing a petition, my brother waited 14 years in line to be interviewed by immigration officers and went through all kinds of background check ups and he finally was able to come. Filing fees, all sorts of expenses such as travel/hotel to the US consulate located in a different city far away, medical exams etc…

The process is insane here and unfair to immigrants. I remember helping an OXFORD EDUCATED cousin-in-law of mine who was simply trying to renew his visa. He was SO nervous and STRESSED at not understanding certain wording of the renewal. He wanted to make sure he was doing everything correctly. I took a look at his paperwork. I'm native born, have lived in the U.S. my entire life, and have a communication degree. I could not comprehend the wording myself; it just wasn't clear about what was being asked of him. I took him to the immigration office during their designated open hours to try to get answers since their phone line was 100% not helpful. I think the phone line may have even referred us to go the office. As we stood in a line that would have been airport-worthy, one and a half hours passed. I got hopeful as we neared the desk, thinking we only have 30 mins left before we reach it. However, a sign was put up saying that the office was now closed for lunch. There was no mention about this on the website. We had no choice but to try back another day since we both had to get to back to our jobs. He did eventually get his paperwork done, but imagine someone of lower education and a less flexible schedule trying to get this done, considering immigration offices are only open during standard government business hours, but even so unreliably. It needs to be better.

Well that's funny because I was married to an immigrant and she got deported because she didn't have a work permit. And wasn't allowed back into this country for 5 years. I also had immigration at my house to make sure that it was a legitimate marriage and they kept on showing up to make sure that we were there together and they were going through our clothes drawers to make sure that we actually live together. Showing up any day that they want at all times and hours of the day and night. In an order for us to be granted a marriage license we had to sign paperwork that we would not accept any government assistance otherwise they would not grant us a marriage license These are laws that are on the books right now that the American people don't know about. So you deported my wife because she didn't have a work permit. My wife entered the country legally and she was still deported. Every single immigrant that entered this country is not supposed to receive any type of aid from the government. Zero. If they're not capable of taking care of themselves then they're not granted a chance to stay in this country orfill out paperwork to become an American citizen unless they're self-sustaining. You American people are getting bamboozled and nobody cares because it's an inconvenience and they don't want to go out in the streets and pick it or protest.

My xwife had to jump through so many hoops to become a citizen. I helped her all the way but it's not an easy process. That's how it should be. Are there times I wish it didn't happen, of course, but that's a personal thing. But in all she did what she had to. It was hard but our family is basically no different than other divorced families.
