According to the legislation, the VRA was never meant to be permanent but rather gradually phased out. It's been nearly 6 decades and no one is denied their right to vote

I was 4 years old when this was passed. My dad lived during Jim Crow. Now, our right to vote is being threatened. It has been just under 60 years.

LBJ was a known racist. The south (heavily democrat party followers) wouldn't recognize the 15th amendment. He did this because some of the followers of MLK started the a third political party known as the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party in 1964. This got National attention, and forced LBJ to sign the act. Other states (heavily Republican party) didnt have this issue.

Giving accolades to a president for delivering a great speech while signing such a monumental historic bill is different from idolizing him. Every one of them has been dynamic with problems.
