Human remains found in car that started Texas pipeline fire

Residents in suburban Houston returned to their homes Thursday after evacuating from an ongoing natural gas pipeline fire. Officials say the case turned into a criminal investigation as they work to identify the remains found in the SUV that struck the pipeline. CBS News correspondent Janet Shamlian reports.

protective bollards would have prevented all of this. For those that don't know bollards are metal posts that are anchored into the ground to protect from vehicle collisions.

True, though it was so far away from a road and already had a metal fence around it. I can understand why they didn't think it was necessary.

Gasoline Pipeline near me has metal and concrete bollards protecting almost everywhere pipelines are above ground, even in the middle of a soybean field.

@sandbridgekid4121 Interesting! Maybe that makes sense though, the chances of farming equipment hitting it have got to be pretty high, especially if the farmer switched to growing corn. High pressure petrol is particularly scary too, in previous disasters it's flooded down miles of terrain before finding an ignition source. Is there also a large concrete/gravel pad around it to stop crops encroaching on the valve and hiding it completely?

The authority should never allow residences to be built near a pipeline. This is dangerous in every sense of the word. What is the level of cancer in this neighborhood? I am curious to know if the gas or fuel is mixed with the water stream.

It wasn't the pipeline company's fault that someone ran their vehicle across and parking lot, through a field, through a fence at high speed strait into a pressurized above ground pipe. stop making this out to be the pipeline company's fault.
