What we know about the deaths of American missionaries in Haiti

This beautiful young couple were the best of us. They were dedicated and committed. The husband, Davey grew up in Haiti, his parents started the orphanage mission in 2000. They went back and were helping, they gave food from their bakery to everyone trying to save the innocent children. People risk their lives to help others like first responders, some do extreme & dangerous sports for $$.These two gave it all for those less fortunate. Our prayers are for the innocent children, and the parents of thees two wonderful kind& humble souls

It has been tragic for quite a while now, and most people don't know about the victims who don't make the news. My brother (Ret. Army Ranger), his wife, and a friend who was also with them, were ambushed on the streets of Cap-Haitien in Haiti three years ago. They had been in the country on mission work for almost six years and were just a few weeks away from moving back to the states permanently. They were on their way to their home, when my brother saw something was up with two guys on a motorcycle in front of them. The two guys stopped suddenly, and the one on the back of the motorcycle got off and pulled a gun from his pocket. He told his wife and the other person in the vehicle to get down. As they were trying to evade the gunmen by getting around them; my brother was shot. He told his wife he had been hit and that he didn't have feeling in his legs. His wife who was sitting next to him during the ambush was able to step on the gas and continued down the street getting them far enough away from the two gang members and saving their lives. They all survived but my brother is now paralyzed from the chest down and still carries the bullet and fragments in his lung and spine. The reason you didn't hear about them is because their story wasn't newsworthy enough. Why? Because they weren't killed.

A long time ago I went to vacation in the DR and had to stay in my resort hotel in Puerto Plata because of political reasons on the island…at the time my partner had to argue with airport security who wanted to keep his khaki and army green shorts saying it’s unlawful to wear it there…it’s a beautiful place but there’s problems there too…

This is a very sad situation. I am so sorry and my heartfelt Condolences to their friends, family and church family who will now encounter the peace and comfort of God on a deeper level than you have ever experienced before. Your babies and the other missionary went to heaven together. They had a calling on their lives to Haiti and a burden of compassion for the children. All of the good they have done has not went unnoticed by the eyes of God. Be expecting great revival and a harvest of souls...their deaths were not in vain!

That's not what 99% of missionaries do at all. They go to other countries that have ASKED them to come help work on a certain project or help people do a specific charitable task (in this case they needed help running an orphanage). Missionaries do NOT go to push their religion on others or to put down other religions, but instead they are supposed to try to show the love of Jesus through their own actions and the way they treat people. The 1% of crazy Karen missionaries that harass locals and try to convert them are often highlighted in the media bc their actions are so appalling and not the norm.

More than 3/4 of Haitians are Christians, with over 1/2 Catholics (many in addition practicing Vudu), but also many are Baptists, Pentecostal etc. It is doubtful these missionaries were "pushing THEIR religion."Seems they were ministering to the needy, not trying to convert already converted people.
