On Tuesday, conservation experts in Richmond, Virginia, examined the items inside a time capsule that was located beneath a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Historians believe the box, the second one removed from the site, was placed there in 1887.

Oh geezuz. The ideas of the ignorant... The founders of our nation were pretty much ALL masons for decades and decades - as opposed to Roman catholic fraternities. I have no doubt the Masonic principles, those of most traditional protestant Christians, dominated many congressional, legal & executive government documents... as well, England's law history, which constructs the basis of our own. Masons are different from those who populate organizations such as the Elks, only in that it originated in the 1700s in protestant English dominated countries, among freemasons - in the construction trade, an early union in effect. It calls for moral behavior and the fellowship of friends... my parents families were both masons/eastern star, my father and his brothers grand masters, one a 32nd degree Mason and my sisters/ cousins rainbow girls. I am certain their friends/neighbors, whether in the masons or Roman catholic, all supported each other as do most small town farmers. And, I can assure you, none of us were wealthy, privileged or influential beyond anyone else in the community. The only beef I had with them is they seemed to segregate racially by all black/all white member lodges, at least into the 1950s, when I hope racial barriers followed those of most institutions and broke down, but don't know. If you want intrigue, look to the clergy in the Roman catholic hierarchy. Lots of ancient secrets there, including child molestation...

its really sad that as a people, we're in a state where its easier to believe that there is a shadow organization running the country instead of that the government that your grandparents voted in and your parents supported, was a bad one and is a bad one and will continue to be a bad one because americans, as a people, make bad political decisions.

@@BrassyBrunette No, they use history to their advantage to divide us plebs so they can fatten the bank accounts of "vampires". Look at a current world map and all the countries dealing with crazy anti-vaxxers, Q-nuts, maga cult mentality, etc. are still part G. Britain's royally evil empire. That's why a monster like p-do prince Andy can get caught in front of the eyes of the world, walk away like nothing happened and days later the "news" seems to have forgotten all about it. Him and his mum don't even have last names, and the surnames they have used are fake AF. It's far more complicated than that and designed to make people fall into conspiracy rabbit holes so they look completely nuts even though some of it is true. The vast historical knowledge, logic, critical thinking skills, and belief in G-d (not religion) required to link it all together without losing your grasp on reality is something 99% of the population does not have. Historical archeology. Usually involves excavation with precision. Specialized hand tools are used. Sometimes chemicals, or powered equipment are needed. Archeologists must being very skilled in a variety of areas so as to not to accidentally damage the artifacts or the site. They seek to understand the significance of the item(s ) found. They have the background knowledge or will further research to properly categorize the findings. They work in teams usually, to understand each item within the context of the particular site / area, era, and culture. They must have prior experience in handling items that tend to be delicate due to prolonged deterioration. This can include various degrees of cleaning or partial restoration on a multitude of different materials, for example: paper, cloth, wood, ceramic, paint, metals, minerals, animal and human remains such as bones... remnants of DNA. Debris must be removed enough for the item to be further understood, but not more than is necessary. Archeologists process items further by careful categorization, recording, reporting, photographing and finding proper homes for preservation, such as museums, public and private historic collections, etc. Archivists, curators and museum that do research, catalog and make sure arrangements and conditions are maintained for keeping the items safe for storage. Historians are specialists in a particular time and/or place.

"These are books." Really??? The choice of books placed in this time capsule shed light on the mindset and culture of the time. They're invaluable!

Unbelievable the way this whole thing was handle. The woman handling the Box was so loud so unprofessional didn't know what she was doing a lot of the Artifics I'm sure got worse. So unprepared, unprofessional... unbelievable. Once the artifacts were transferred on to a push cart, all we could say was the ring leader's backside. The 3 stooges.

Why isn’t the box up on it’s end with books stacked so everything doesn’t fall at once? Who is this woman and why is she doing it this way? It’s like watching Ethyl and Lucy break into Fort Knox. Where’s the expert?

There are dozen and dozen of comments about how bad this was handled and that women's off putting comment. She doesn't look like she is going to take it well when her boss gets a hold of her.

This was so bothersome seeing how this was handled. Maybe because of the bias in that area?.. seeing they tore the statue down.. they just don’t care? Did they use special conditions and special equipment to do this?

If the person who made this box had known that they were going to open it this way and for this person, they would have preferred to go back and do nothing. Especially putting the books "they're just books" No uniform, kid taking pictures with his cellphone, she's looking for prints in a 2x2 box, no proper light, etc. The more I look, the more mistakes I find, it would have been opened in a McDonald's.

Seems like they should just throw the whole box in the trash, what's the point of keeping the stuff in the box when they were so quick to destroy the statue that contained the box it's all history that they are trying to erase.
