Attorneys representing the family of Valentina Orellana-Peralta, who was killed by a stray bullet fired by a Los Angeles police officer, held a news conference on Tuesday. The 14-year-old girl was struck by a bullet while officers were firing at a suspect who was assaulting a woman at a store on Thursday. LAPD released bodycam video and CCTV footage of the incident on Monday.

@@johnrodriguez319 the suspect did not even have a gun.... he was attacking people with a large pad lock at the store..and vandalizing the property with it... .one of the workers at the store who called 911 told the operator he did have a gun and yelled at everyone to evacuate the store....causing more confusion and wrong information to the police who arrived at the scene...thus having the officer just went gun ho at sight of the suspect....

Yes sir and it is always good to practice often. Mine is a shield ez 380 and you have to focus. 380 ammo is hard to get currently so I'm waiting for my 9mm which has slightly easier to find ammo. Ideally I would like to practice every week. Rule of them, never point your gun at anything you don't intend to shoot.

Put yourself in their boots for a minute. You're told "shots fired" and see a victim on the ground bleeding, wouldn't you assume the suspect was armed? I'm far from a boot licker and I have no problem pointing out cops doing wrong, but you have to look at the whole picture sometimes, and put yourself in that situation.

@@elcajondavid1 call was not for an active shooter. There were multiple 911 calls and dispatchers were clearly told many times that he was assaulting people with a bike lock. There was one caller that said she thought she heard shots but she was unsure. They were not shots, only the suspect destroying things. This event went on long enough for everybody to know there was no shooting and no gun. Cop was also negligent for using an AR-15 in a crowded department store 2 days before Christmas where there were obviously innocent civilians around. Use of that rifle would have only been justified had there been a shoot out with the suspect, which there wasn’t. Cop was over eager to “take point” with the rifle and even disregarded other officers telling him to slow down. And this ALL happened before the officer even laid eyes on the suspect or the scene itself…so yeah.

However I know how tough communication can be and the cop with a rifle jumping and pushing his coworker out of the way to take point lead made a bad call, he should as any other professional would be, held accountable. The problem lies where one police officer jumped on the target to fast while all his partners were telling him to stay where they were but he decided to go ahead of them and didn't listen to the others. This was a tragedy. You DON'T use an assault rifle to engage a suspect when innocent people may be in the line of fire. That is basic firearm safety. An AR bullet doesn't easily dissipate energy, it travels through bodies and walls. L.E. should have engaged with either a taser, shotgun or pistol with frag bullets. This isn't Afghanistan and L.E. aren't soldiers, clearing hostile buildings!

@@winning3329 Could have been. Maybe Dispatch got things all messed up. It's just a very bad situation that happened and could have been prevented if everyone handled it professionally. Everyone should learn a lesson from this from the 911 caller to the Dispatcher to the Police Officers in the Future. The Caller needs to be accurate. The Dispatcher needs to make sure everything is correct before relaying the message. And the Police Officers need way better Training amd to be aware of their surroundings. One question and some talking to make sure no one was in the Dressing Room could have saved this young girls life. Here in West Virginia we are known to have one of the toughest if not the toughest Police Academy Trainings in the USA and Police Officers are taken to the Gun Range for continuous Practice. My son used to be Police Officer until BLM started ruining everything. I think this is happening everywhere. Good Officers leaving the Profession and we are getting stuck with alot of untrained and unreliable Officers.

I'm definitely not supporting this Rambo-cop. The offender had stopped raging and was at least 25 ft from the woman he attacked earlier; he also did not threaten the cops. 5 cops--1 suspect, who did not have a gun. The other cops told Rambo to slow down. But Rambo decided to fire a RIFLE in a crowded retail store. At a point where the offender had calmed down. I stand fully behind poor Valentina's family.

I am really heartbroken for the family, but these attorneys are grotesque! What is "Justice" when a child dies? In these attorneys' eyes are dollar bills, and parading a hurting family in public to get the city to settle. They hold this rally hours after the LAPD release the videos, actual calls, and interactions with police dispatchers. They show the surveillance footage, and body cam footage. There was no way they knew he was not armed, and they went in with the correct assumptions. It is clear the rifle was fired 3 times, and either went through the suspect or between air space. My only takeaway on "Justice", is that others are safer...and I think the street cops do not need long rifles in close quarters. Those are very powerful and the bullets do not stop easy. This is why hollow point rounds are used in pistols, and not solid practice bullets. Practice bullets travel through people and through walls. That is the only change... But the narrative for "Justice", wow, watch the actual video and not the snippets the news outlets release. The RAW footage is out there, and it is very clear it was a quick move, and very accurate shooting. Not spraying bullets like in "The Gauntlet". Stop the narrative and let the folks grieve! Try recommending MP5s or some other carbine for close quarters, or just use their sidearms.
