To those comfortable "fantasy" Californians, who live by the relatively warm coast: In real life, over most of the North American continent, ELECTRIC vehicles powered ONLY on Lithium-Ion batteries, will not work in extreme cold weather. People will likely die if they try to drive an Electric Vehicle without backup powered sources in subzero temperatures. Don't believe me- try driving cross country towards Wyoming in a blizzard. Let's see the politicians who want to outlaw combustion engines, drive their Electric vehicles From Donner Pass, through Utah, across the Midwest, perhaps up towards Canada, in the middle of winter. Without backup electrical power, or power outages at charging stations, PEOPLE WILL DIE.

My company needed new diesel box trucks and they had a hard time finding someone able to construct them. We finally did find someone but it was such a hassle. Glad the ban was lifted. Had to switch from voting Dem to Republican to get some common sense politics.

You won't be able to buy a gas powered vehicle in California way before 2035 because the changes will be implemented sooner by companies. The politicians make it sound like you can buy a gas powered car until Dec 2034 then companies flip a twitch to sell EV vehicles. This is probably why the Feds are giving California cities bags of money to install bike lanes because the state won't be prepared with the infrastructure to convert to 100% EV's by 2035. If you can't afford an EV and the cost to install a charging station at home by 2035 then they want you on a bicycle. They don't care because "they know better".

For EV trucking to work, a charging center has to be built every 100 miles, where these large trucks are dropped off and then switched out for a fully charged truck to take goods another 100 miles. This will increase food prices 1000%.

I work on cars for a living. Please explain how a solenoid will stop exhaust particulate for forming. If that technology existed, it would already be in place, considering solenoids are very cheap.

@ : I do all my mechanic work. There was a study fifteen years ago. They learned that at every RPM there was a perfectly controlled sweet spot where the diesel engine did not produce particulate matter. Then they aligned all of those parameters across the rpm range. And wallah…maximum and complete combustion. Then I never heard a thing after it.

I have no doubt that you could theoretically test run an engine with no load at “ideal” air:fuel ratio, but it would not run well throughout the RPM range, it would make a fraction of the power of a typical engine, and would have significant longevity and reliability issues. Among the first things that would happen would be burning exhaust valves, extraordinarily high exhaust gas temperatures, and catastrophic piston damage. There is a reason why internal combustion engines make the most power with WOT fuel mixtures substantially richer than ideal stoichiometric mixture. That’s why that tech went nowhere. Not to mention, the reliability of solenoids to effectively control valve motion over time spans and conditions typical of modern vehicles and long haul trucks has never been proven. There’s a reason why no OEMs produce engines that use them in lieu of camshafts. If it was cost effective and reliable, every single one of them would be using them, instead of putting gobs of money into camshaft design, cam phasers for variable valve timing, etc.. If solenoids were viable, they’d be in use.

This video is misleading, there is a CA EV mandate, that is meant to gradually force people to buy EVs. IMO this is a horrible idea. 1. CA is a large state, and driving long distance is practically mandatory. Some people commute for 1-3hrs regularly in a car. 2. EV batteries die in cold weather. CA also has mountains that get snow. 3. Price of gas? How will that be affected 4. CA already turns off electricity in case of fire hazards, making electricity both a hazard and an unreliable source of energy. 5. CA doesn’t produce enough electricity 6. Destroys car culture, ie old cars, lowriders, race cars, off roading vehicles, road trips, etc. 7. Likely will disrupt auto mechanics and their business perhaps forcing them to leave the state and find people out of a job. 8. EV batteries are highly toxic and bad for the environment as there isn’t a clear way of recycling them 9. EVs have the potential for lighting on fire very quickly, not ideal for a fire prone state
