I’m not for defunding the police and agree that it was the worst decision for the city following the BLM protest. However let’s not gloss over the fact that the police received a lot of attention for many years of unchecked abuse of power. We should definitely bring back funding, prestige and power to this thankless profession but when we do we ought to make sure they are equipped to not make the same mistakes as what got them in the spotlight in the first place.

The Oakland government should give jobs to all the homeless people cleaning the city. They should build buildings with apartments where they charge 300 dollars a month and rent them to the homeless, give them jobs and a house and pay extra if they have information about places or people who are dedicated to crime and they know everything that happens on the streets.

OK, but what kind of jobs? Jobs to build the apartments for the homeless to live in? And where is the money to pay them coming from? This kind of job creation where you run major short-term deficits for long-term socioeconomic growth is usually done at the federal level or with federal funding because the feds control money creation. City governments have to balance their budgets. Thinking more outside the box: Maybe an alternative currency or time-credits, something the city government could create for itself could work, but that would require enough local industrial production for people to buy things with the local currency...

I have no clue what is going on here. However, I was a bit turned off when Sheng Thao started dumping on preppies (I am one). I don't think the FBI gives them a lot of extra courtesy. However, top prep schools do produce a lot of highly intelligent and excellent lawyers. If you went to one, you usually have access to extremely talented lawyers, if you need them badly. In my school these were people with 160 to 170 IQs (and some with less). The FBI may be wary of such people.

I'm tired of seeing this ignorance towards policing. You don't necessarily "need" police in the way that people keep demanding. This is so stupid. People literally have no way of understanding how to solve problems without throwing police at it. The fact is that you need support for children and youth so that they don't become problems. If anything, you need policing for adults who re-offend but so much of that money needs to be placed into the following: early childhood development, childcare, free lunch, counseling, after school programs, family services. If more money was put there you would see a reduced need for policing in several years.
