Why was the topsoil in the plains of Texas vulnerable to windstorms in the 1930s?
@simonhans34534 жыл бұрын
Intense tillage
@nathanielmorton6593 жыл бұрын
drought hit and wind storms developed from silt particles not binding like clay....with exposed soil there was no way for the water to keep from evaporating and farming practices that worked in the east failed in the west....in middle tennessee we have 48" of rain a year in Oklahoma more like 20"....same principles wont work
@madebysammy20002 жыл бұрын
intense tillage is right. instead of leaving the remains of the last crops, they burned them for the new ones--- so the soil was exposed instead of being held down. they didn't care much for soil. This is was the hard lesson.

I dont know much about dust storms. But would rain not clean those fields?

One of the problems was that it didn't rain

Why aren't we questioning the brutal killing all of the natural animals of the plains, the buffalo, which removed that vital cycle of hooved animals grazing, defecating, trampling, fertilizing maintaining the prairie grasses that held in the moisture. It was that heinous act that had to have a devastating effect on the soil. Even if the mass slaughter didn't cause the Dust Bowl, those animals, had they been allowed to live, would have brought the grasses back.

Typical liars. It was a drought that was most of the problem. They still have dust storms today, especially in dry years. It was govt subsidized wheat prices that encouraged farmers to plant more and more. That land is good for grazing and should probably never seen a plow.

@@d-rocky615 i have dear sir. I guess it depends upon individual preferences and biases to call upon the validity of something concerning as global warming.However calling someone out for being 'illiterate' when you yourself have any solid validity for your claim is not the way to go.
