Water, from its formula weight -18- one would predict it would be a gas at ordinary temperatures & pressures. Ammonia - with a formula weight of 17- is a gas at temperatures as low as minus 33'C. at atmospheric pressure. Hydrogen sulfide,, closely related to water by position in the periodic table & with a formula weight of 34, is a gas at temperatures down to minus 59°C. The fact that water exists as a liquid at all, at ordinary temperatures is something to make one stop and think. Water defys the laws of cold rationality. But leave it to greedy human idiots to add chemicals destroying our Life source is just mind boggling 😡 No living thing can survive without water, I cannot understand this. Water is a very interesting compound, and indeed it should make one stop and think, but it doesn't "defy the laws of cold rationality"! The farmer's final statement illustrates how profound our misunderstanding of how environmental problems have to be handled. Farmers are in their essence alone and they view all problems as mine alone to solve. They don't expect help nor do they ask for it (except for ag subsidies but just mentioning that will get you in a fight). But the mentality of the farmer is if you have a problem it's your responsibility to solve it. That outlook makes them tough and resilient but it also prevents them from understanding how problems are collectively solved. It's a different skill set and this farmer, who by no fault of his own, still blames himself for his farm being contaminated by pfas. He knows it's not his fault but he still feels that it is. He just doesn't get that his personal choices had very little to do with this outcome. Or that there isn't a personal choice that could've prevented this outcome. That fact would shock him if he really internalized the ramifications of it. Environmental problems are a class of problems that can only be solved through collective solutions and that runs counter to deeply held American beliefs in the last 50 years probably longer. We just saw how the lack of using collective action played out with COVID because public health problems fall into this collective solutions class of problems. It didn't go well because we've lost this muscle of using collective action to solve these problems.

Therefore, some problems can be solved by personal choice alone. Market based solutions CAN work in lots of situations, and there's nothing wrong with that. But there does exist some problems that resist solutions using personal choices alone. I'm not sure why the fact that some problems are solved by personal choices, and some problems that are solved by collective action should be that controversial. They really are 2 ways to solve problems and we should use both to solve problems at best align with each methodology.

I suggest everyone even on tap water.. get 20 inch big blue filters in their houses... Start off with a sediment filters. Then get a KDF filter for heavy metals. Then get a GAC or activated carbon filter.. activated carbon filters do filter out PFAS from the water. On our 14 acres. I installed 4 filters. Sediment. Kdf, ABC carbon and then GAC carbon. I also installed a RODI filter under the sink

This was & is heartbreaking. The old saying of - “for every rat you see there’s 10 you don’t “ - I’m afraid could definitely apply for this situation & this one type of contaminant , that the public now has been aware of ; but it begs the question |?| how many other chemicals are in everything & everywhere? Sadly in the past, in 🇺🇸 anyways, if you speak out or even question anything you’re quickly & easily branded a conspiracy theorist, even by family members. This really is such a difficult time in history, I know I’m not alone in feeling so alone. I do have to say though - I’m impressed that CBS Sunday morning did a story on this because mainstream media especially in the last 3 - 5 years is seemingly in bed with SO many of these big companies. I don’t know if CBS did that because of bravery or the now becoming extinct “journalistic integrity” or some other reason , which I hope is not nefarious. It’s hard to trust any supposed journalism/ “news” stations or reporters anymore.
