Writer Delia Ephron on love, cancer and second chances

Author and screenwriter Delia Ephron, who is no stranger to romantic storylines, has lately been living one - having lost her first husband, she married a man she'd first dated half a century ago. But their wedding occurred in the hospital, where she was undergoing chemotherapy for leukemia. CBS News' Dr. Jon LaPook talks with Ephron about her memoir, "Left on Tenth: A Second Chance at Life"; about a gut-punch of a medical prognosis; and how love kept her going.

"Who forgets an Ephron girl!?!" I love that comeback! I have been an orphan and a widow and dealt with trauma... writing released so much pain. One cannot endure such things without expressing in some way, paint a picture, take up Improv, so many ways to just get that out... to take thoughts that rattle around in your brain and express them. I read that article and it did move me. Last year, out of the blue after such an eccentric yet grief-stricken life, I got a cancer diagnosis. It's in my genes, yet I was totally unaware as there has never been cancer in my family. It is difficult and you do feel alone because it is, in fact, your battle... but it reminds you connections are the most important thing to keep in our lives, no matter what comes our way.
