It was one of the first hit Broadway shows starring, written and directed by African-Americans. Now, the 1921 musical "Shuffle Along" is being revived and re-imagined for today's audiences. Correspondent Maurice DuBois talks with stars Brian Stokes Mitchell, Audra McDonald and Billy Porter, director George C. Wolfe, and tap dancer-choreographer Savion Glover about bringing the show back to life.

The tap choreographer could pass for late 20's. Black don't crack.

This show could’ve been so much more successful if it wasn’t in the same season as HAMILTON (no offense at all to Hamilton) and also if Audra McDonald didn’t have to leave the show due to being pregnant (which obviously isn’t her fault). Also, Savion Glover, the choreographer, did the tap dancing for Mumble in Happy Feet.

We are waiting to learn of the new "behind the scenes" script/dialog that took place in the making of the original play. We have one and now await to hear of the next one. We're Just Wild About Broadway! The play and story may have been forgotten but the music lives on today. "Harry" was recorded by quite a few performers and in 1948 a band in DC played it for Harry Truman when he was campaigning for President. Blake's "Memories of You" is a standard.

I heard "I'm just Wild about Harry" sung in snatches by my grandmother, but I had no idea it was from an all-black musical, Shuffle along, which like most of us, never heard of. I hope I get to see this musical performed!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. This show should have won best choreography. NOT Hamilton.

Billy Porter learned how to tap "from the White Folks"? You mean like the Irish, who contributed equally with blacks to this particular form of dance? Like white show business legends like Marilyn Miller, Ruby Keeler and Ann Pennington, who performed this type of dancing to perfection and great acclaim? His very statement shouts racism. Oh, darn, I forgot - only the White folk are prejudiced.

I think he's pointing out the different technique. Not that it's bad, but that it is different. If you watch Fred Astaire, and Bojangles Robinson, you can understand what he is saying.

Listening comprehension is very important. He stated he learned how to tap dance from white people but the technique was very technical and different from that of black tap dancers. In this show, that's important to understand.
