Yes you can...i made my tda2050 somedays ago ,, i can power it with lithium 18650 battery depending on how much watts i want eg for room listenig at night only two battery in series for a total of 8.2v ..and its just draw 20-30mA in each battery enough for a whole night , ..during the day six battery in series for a total of 24volt center is 12v enough for my usage

The preamp reduces the volume to a great extent. Do something about it.

You really can’t. I’m pretty sure it’s a baxandall/James if you’re familiar with that- but all the resistors onboard are what produce the frequency isolation functionality. The trade off is obvious.
