I actually had a the scene where Ulysses recalled that Courier Six broke down crying when Bloopy robot sacrificed himself because it felt like kind of a downer and made the video end weirdly. The general idea was that Courier Six said farewell to ED-E by resting his head on ED-E, tearfully saying "Bloopy robot say-" before cutting himself off because he's crying. ED-E sadly does the "beep beep" part of their quote, before nudging the Courier to keep moving and then sacrificing himself to stop the missiles. Ulysses then comments it was the weirdest thing he'd ever seen.

My theory is: the Courier is a super-genius trying to explain 4D concepts to everyone else's 2D brains and that's the closest thing to making himself understood by them. For if he were to speak in his true voice and express his real thoughts they wouldn't understand. The Courier is merely adapting to the audience. Take Caesar, for example. He has lower intelligence than Snuffles (INT 4 vs INT 5... no joke, look it up, these are their stats). Caesar thinks Hegelian dialectics is peak philosophy. How can the Courier explain to these people the geometry of time, the concept of spacetime continuum and physics of interdimensional travel, without using Sergeant Cuddles?

@sealsaregood51462 ай бұрын
I don't know if you've played Fallout: New Vegas and the DLC Lonesome Road, if you're liable to then you might want to avoid spoilers, which are below: Basically Ulysses, (the guy talking in the video) wants to murder Courier 6 (the player character in the game) because Courier 6 delivered a package to a place Ulysses lived that served as his new home. That package carried an activated detonator that sent a signal to underground ICBM missiles and wiped out the community Ulysses had found for himself. His plan was to use Courier 6 to bring him ED-E (an advanced robot) to get launch codes and use them to nuke the Mojave, which he hopes will kill the NCR and Legion, in their current forms, and force the development of something new, while learning from the mistakes of history. Why Ulysses wants to do this is, put simply, he's a crazy guy who blames you for bringing a detonator to bombs that blew up his home, even though you had no idea what was in the package. Put less simply, Ulysses is a man who is utterly obsessed with symbols and symbolism, what they mean and how they impact peoples and cultures. A central conflict of Fallout: New Vegas is that two major factions, the NCR (New California Republic, which is basically trying to resurrect America as best it can, but are fundamentally flawed in Ulysses' view, riven by internal divisions and a comprehensive failure to learn from history) and the Legion (who kind of model themselves on Rome which is, obviously, also a state which ended up collapsing.) Ulysses is originally part of the Legion and is the one who reports sighting Hoover dam to Caesar (head of the Legion.) This basically kick-starts an invasion and to a large extent the tensions between the Legion and NCR. Ulysses blames himself for this (in parallel for blaming you for bringing a package to a community and wiping it out) even though neither of you could possibly know what you actions would do. Ulysses wanders for a while, eventually coming across Hopeville, a place far removed from both the NCR and Legion and basically doing its own thing. Ulysses sees this place, likes it and decides to settle there. Then you bring the package then destroys everything. Ulysses found a home there and just like that, it's gone. So Ulysses decides to recreate the scenario that allowed Hopeville to exist, ironically mimicking the event that killed it. In his mind, the NCR and Legion are too stuck in the past, both married to deeply flawed ideologies doomed to fail. Instead, he's going to destroy both, and in so doing he wants them to break up into smaller societies to ensure something like the Divide rises again. He decided not to nuke, because, as mentioned previously, he's kind of obsessed with symbols and symbolism, and he wears the flag of pre-war America, which was the symbol of Hopeville. He wears it as a penance and a reminder of what Courier 6 did. Courier 6 basically pointed out that Ulysses claims he hates those who wear symbols without understanding their meaning and considers it an insult (using an experience Ulysses had wherein he trained a tribe called the White Legs to use weapons to aid in an upcoming battle, and they ended up copying his hair, styled in the way of Ulysses' former tribe, the Twisted Hairs. They intended this as reverence, but he considered this an insult, because the knots the Twisted Hairs used held meaning and significance, whereas the White Legs had no idea of this and their knots where essentially gibberish. In his eyes, they were defiling a symbol.) Meanwhile, Ulysses is wearing a flag of a nation that he killed by stopping ED-E doing its job, something he had no idea about. Put simply, Ulysses is defiling the symbol in the same way the White Legs had, but worse because the White Legs weren't the group who annihilated the Twisted Hairs. Courier 6 follows this up by offering Ulysses hope. "Now what do?" Sure, Ulysses has done the very thing he hates most, but that doesn't have to be his final realisation. Ulysses doesn't have to die here, the symbol of America dying with him, a symbol he defiled. Instead, he had options open to him, he can ensure the symbol of America lives. In short, he realises: "What do indeed?" I could go significantly more in-depth, and I apologise for the layman's surface level summary, as I've glossed over some key nuances, but that's the gist of it.
