Not that this should be your goal, but if you're trying to get the maximum number of earphone drivers for your money, you'd have to start with the CCA C10. It's a 10-driver earphone (5 per ear) with some attributes that'll be familiar to KZ customers. But the number of drivers isn't important -- let's see how these things wear and sound.
See the CCA C10 on Amazon: amzn.to/2Tc7jZX
Under $30 on AliExpress
Disclosure: This video is NOT sponsored, but these earphones were sent to me free for review.
FYI: I may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.

I have both the KZ ZS10 and CCA C10 and been listening and comparing them for the past two months. According to some literature I've read online, both of them have the exact number and model of 4BA and 1 dynamic drivers - except that they are placed differently within the shell. Price-wise, the C10 is just slightly cheaper than ZS10. Build-wise, the ZS10 is a hollow plastic shell versus the C10's resin shell, so the C10 feels slightly more solid. C10 is also slightly smaller than ZS10 - resulting in C10 sitting more comfortably in the ears. Soundwise, I find the C10 more balanced and clearer than the ZS10. Bass is about the same. Mids a bit more pronounced. Treble is also clearer. The soundstage is about the same. It's definitely warmer and rounder. Better than the ZS10, C10 is far from neutral, but I can definitely listen to C10 far longer and more comfortably than the ZS10.

Love your channel, mate! Since in my country is a bit impossible for someone who won't earn much to buy phones from big brands like shure, sennheiser, Audio-Technika etc, it is nice to have cheaper options like these chi-fi in-ears. And it is always good to see amazing reviews like these of your channel. The CCA C10 is one that I intend to buy in a near future and your review gave us a good panorama of what is this product about. Thanks and keep the good work! Cheers from Brazil.

I love the KZ ZSTs which I bought about 2 1/2 years ago now. The sound is pretty good, maybe a pinch too bright for what I'd really want, but something about them is just really good. Anyways this has the same exact housing (available in different colors), and I've been reading that CCA is a spinoff of KZ, they share parts and tech. I've heard that the main hardware difference is CCA has a different dynamic driver than the equivalent KZ headphone and that these are not as bright as the KZs of equivalence, so I'm hoping these will be everything I love about the ZSTs minus the flaws. Gotta be honest though, the candy colors of the ZST (theyre purple and pink which looks awesome) can't be beat, and the zinc faceplate of these doesn't do it for me like the ZSTs do. They're for listening to not looking at though, so it wasn't gonna stop me from making the purchase. Thanks for the review and info, good video.

@@SuperReview: Yes, the brand CCA was conceived over dinner, when Mr He (boss of KZ) was on the dining table with Hong Kong hifi guru Wilmer Ma. Mr Ma was bragging about his Clearaudio Concept turntable when the name Clear Concept Audio (ie: CCA) was established. The rest is history. KZ more or less has reached its peak and Mr He is getting tired of the direction his company is heading. He needed something new and refreshing, thus the CCA branding, an alter-ego of KZ.

C10's are great as a cheap stage monitor- silver upgrade cable, NewBees memory foam tips (black on the left, Red on the Right for easy orientation), and done. I agree about the v-shaped profile, but it's better than the KZ AS10's, which were too bloated. Keeping my old Share 425SE's as backup, but these strike just the right balance for me as a bassist.

Pro audio guy here, I've been comparing KZ's for a bit and I half agree half disagree. The ZSN & ZSN Pro both have an exaggerated treble that is harsh and the bad kind of crispy; the mids on both are also just a bit too recessed for anything critical (functional for live IEM use but not great - handles raw volume levels fine). The C10 had a pretty similar signature to the ZSN, as you mentioned, but I never had any issues with boom or heavy low mids at all. The C10's cleaned up the treble of the ZSN and filled out the mids slightly while taming the bass by a hair. Thats the impression I got. I switched from the ZSN to the C10 during a band rehearsal and the C10 was the obvious winner. The clear but slightly tamed bass made hearing the drums and bass easy without having them loud and the enhanced mids made my guitar much easier to hear. Everything had room, it handled the raw volume well (not sure what to call it, lots of headphones, even expensive ones, can't handle IEM/monitor use, they clip out). My only complaint is the fit, since they are bulky they sit shallow in the ear, giving less isolation than something like the A10 and causing fatigue faster. I haven't noticed any improvement using foam tips on these, maybe the ones I had were too cheap. Anyway, I wanted to throw my 2cents in that I heard no boominess. The AS10's are boomy and huge in the mids by comparison, making them unusable for me.
@steverolfeca
@steverolfeca 4 жыл бұрын
Yes!!! My experience exactly. As a bassist, it's more important for me to hear the rest of the band. Receiving a bunch of artificial subsonic information is fun for casual listening, but not when I'm working. I've given my other KZ's (including the AS10's) to friends and family. My Shure 425E's have finally been relegated to backup duty.

@@TheRCBasher69420 as I kept neither I can't remember anymore. In the end I found some Shure 315s I liked better than anything else. The sennheiser ie100s I tried also had insanely good high end but I found their ear tips way too fiddly. The main issue with almost all KZs for me is they had no headroom along the frequency range (something I can't find a spec to represent). If you boost a frequency and sweep on an eq, you'd seldom hear a change. Not so with the shures. I *think* the c10s were the most useful out of the list I tried. But at the price, for me, I didn't save enough to avoid going with known brands and the differences for critical work were very noticeable.
@ReddenDoom
@ReddenDoom 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheRCBasher69420 now that Im remembering more I think the c10 was much better than the ZSN. The C10 was the only one to function aurally and ergonomically at an acceptable level for me, and then only for casual listening. I also needed a LOT of isolation which the C10 couldn't quite give. I wanted to mention that the Etymotic ER3XR's were also really good if you want something a bit more sterile or clinical sounding to the 315s musical mids. I found the bass and high clarity of the ER3XR very nice, massive isolation too. Can often be found pretty cheap ~$90 since they are discontinued. Can have weak cable issues though so you'd want a backup cable.

Does a tube amp does anything more than a Bluetooth amp to an IEM in terms of soundstage, clarity etc?
@SuperReview

Different people will give you different answers. A tube amp will for sure give you more volume. Which, with some headphones, can give a better perception of soundstage or better separation in some frequencies. But it's very dependent on the headphone, and also now you're listening at volumes that may not be comfortable anyway.

@KopiOkaya 5 жыл бұрын
Macho: Hi, I am into both head-fi and hi-fi. I am an electronics engineer by training. I built my own amps - both tube and solid state. Many engineers and musicians have long debated the question of tube sound versus transistor sound. Conventional methods of frequency response, distortion, and noise measurement have always assumed linear (clean and clear, aka "transparent sound") operation of the test amplifier and have shown that no significant difference exists. In actual operation most amplifiers are often severely overloaded with signal transients. Under this condition there is a major difference in the harmonic distortion of tube and transistor circuits. There are also significant differences in the construction of tube and transistor amplifiers that contribute to the sound. Tube amplifiers require output transformers to match the high impedance of the power tubes to the low impedance of the load (ie: loudspeaker or headphone). The transformer has a natural high-frequency roll-off that makes the tube amplifier sound warmer. When the amplifier is overdriven the transformer also has a point of core saturation that provides a form of compression. This gives the tube amplifier sustain and a singing quality that sounds very musical. Transistor power amplifiers are either direct or capacitor coupled to the speaker load and do not have this natural compression. Negative feedback circuits used to reduce distortion in tube amplifiers are relatively simple. Negative feedback circuits used to reduce distortion in transistor amplifiers are more complex. The different types of negative feedback circuits in tube and transistor amplifiers react very differently to the harmonic content of the signal when the amplifier is overdriven. Tube amplifiers generally have a smoother, rounded waveform, where the overdrive of a transistor amplifier is more abrupt and resembles a square wave. The harmonic content of an overdriven tube amplifier consists primarily of 2nd order and 3rd order harmonics with some 4th order harmonics. The harmonic content of an overdriven transistor amplifier is primarily 3rd order with suppressed 2nd order harmonics. 2nd and 3rd order harmonics are the most important from a viewpoint of electronic distortion. Musically the 2nd harmonic is an octave above the fundamental and is almost inaudible, yet it adds body to the sound, making it fuller. The 3rd harmonic is a musical 12th. Instead of making the tone fuller, a strong 3rd harmonic makes the tone softer. The odd harmonics (3rd, 5th, etc.) produce a "stopped" or "covered" sound. The even harmonics (2nd, 4th, etc.) produce a "choral" or "singing" sound. Adding a 5th to a strong 3rd harmonic give the sound a metallic quality that gets annoying in character as the amplitude increases. A strong 2nd with a strong 3rd harmonic tends to open the "covered" effect. Adding the 4th and 5th harmonics to this gives an "open horn" character. The higher harmonics, above the 7th, give the tone "edge" or "bite." The basic cause of the difference in tube and transistor sound is the weighting of harmonic distortion in the amplifier’s overload region. Transistor amplifiers exhibit a strong component of 3rd harmonic distortion when driven into overload. This harmonic gives a "covered" sound with a restricted quality. A tube amplifier when overdriven generates a whole spectrum of harmonics. Particularly strong are 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th overtones that give the sound a full-bodied "brassy" quality. Combining this reinforcing harmonic content with the compression and high-frequency roll-off of the output transformer in a tube amplifier is why your tube amplifier will "give it up" while your friend’s transistor amplifier will sound restricted and harsh. A Bluetooth headset or receiver consists of mainly solid state amplifier. So back to your question regarding soundstage and clarity, my answer to you is it depends. Both can give you exceptional sound-scape and resolution, the only difference is your driven load. Tube amplication is more suited to power "difficult loads" thus will give you better sound quality overall.

I also noticed hearing cracking sound let me know if you face the same issue, it could be that I might have damaged the filter thingy while changing the tips, I would not recommend foam tips it's nozzle is bit tricky as it is smaller than the traditional iem nozzle, if you use foam ear tips then you might have to cut some of it like 1/8th or more to be able to listen comfortably, I would recommend spinfit CP 500/155. Also if you use Google music on your phone after a very good burn in tell me how it sounds when you listen to Rihanna's Love on the brain on Google music I noticed this song shows what is the problem with them, btw it sounds best with many things like try Clean Bandit - Baby acoustic version on KZbin.
