I started working for Starbucks about a month ago and she is not wrong at all when she says that you’ll be on register for a long time before you get to be on bar and man is that POS a challenge in itself lol but luckily for me I’ve memorized the register already. I started being on bar more this week and it is stressful and I panic but I’m definitely gonna take these tips and run with them because I don’t always wanna ask for help (although I still prob will) but I don’t always want to depend on my coworkers. With that being said, I felt good today because my shift leaders told me they saw an improvement in me making the drinks today so I’m happy about that 🙌😌

Since I have started working in a Starbucks kiosk numbers go through my head so much. Frappuccinos: 2,34 hot-syrups: 3,4,5 cold syrups: 3,4,6 hot espresso: 1,2,2 cold espresso: 1,2,3 but I haven’t been on register and don’t know how to do it, I’ve been pulling inventory by myself since day two, and after a week I knew Frappuccino’s and refreshers so well that they handed them to me, the oven in self explanatory, you do dishes when there’s not anything you know how to make. After about 2-3 weeks you have it relatively down.

I just had my second day of training and the first day I've been behind the counter (first day was online modules), and I was honestly super overwhelmed when I took my first order ever and my first order at drive thru (despite them being basically the same, i've learned they're also very different). But by the end of the shift I was almost completely comfortable taking orders! My trainer is incredibly nice and helpful and so is everyone else, I'm honestly so lucky that they're my coworkers cause I'm only 16 and this is my first job so I was (and still am) very nervous to say the least lol. I've only made one drink so far (it was just a basic iced chai tea) and so I'll definitely search up the recipes to be more prepared (and I will be studying that chart!) @@ikiduknot4195 Now I’m scared. My anxiety is at an all time high and I’m abt to have my last day of training tomorrow. I’m scared I’m gonna be super slow all I can do is the refreshers and teas and kind of the fraps but I honestly am scared I can’t handle it. This is kind of a lot of info sorry but I just don’t know what to do 🥲
@ikiduknot4195
@ikiduknot4195 2 жыл бұрын
@@gabbie3404 I'm sorry I saw this a little late. Also please don't be scared, you'll figure it out with time. I'll be completely honest, with my time working there I was only placed on bar 4 times- so of course I didn't get the hang of it, I got the fraps and refreshers down but if they asked me to make a hot drink I was screwed. But it's not that it's hard to memorize there are patterns you get the hang of. The only reason I didn't is purely because I wasn't trained properly on bar. For the whole time I was working there 99% of the time I stayed on drive thru because I was best at it and my manager himself said that I "was one of the least annoying people to deal with on drive thru" (meaning that if he placed anyone else on drive thru he got annoyed with them lmao). My coworkers who got hired at the same time as me but were placed on bar got really good at bar, trust me when I say you'll learn and it'll be literally so easy in a few months. Just talk to your coworkers and managers if you don't know what to do or have any questions, and if they're good people they'll help you immediately. Don't let my experience scare you, because my experience is going to be different than yours.

@@ikiduknot4195 Oh no worries! Yeah I was talking to them today and told them that I don’t think I am well prepared for bar and that I don’t think I can handle it by myself so they said I can have someone there to help me (thankfully). I’m most likely going to be placed on drive thru a lot (at least that’s what I was told) so I’m scared because I work nights and we have to get the drinks ourselves etc. but I did it today and I have no clue how you were able to become good because SO MANY BUTTONS 😭 I’m trying to be patient w myself because I’m just starting but it’s personal pressure which I’m sure you know. The people I work with are super nice so I don’t doubt they’ll help me but my anxiety is simply holding me back. But oh man I have my trust solo shift tomorrow so HOPING it’ll go decent!

I’ve been here for 7 weeks and I’m still very disappointed in my self that I haven’t gotten it completely down :( I see so many people saying they got it relatively down in 3 weeks. Tomorrow was my examination day, they told me I was a bit slower at getting things (true) and (this is coming from me) I need to re-teach myself how to move with a sense of direction, I walk like I’m on vacation, my speed is very mellow and my thinking process is very different. I only got 4 days of learning hot bar and my shifts are 5 hours long. I attempted to get more time on hot bar before but they always got too busy so I just stayed on CS backup register,window and warming. I did good in those (kinda) I messed up a lot on window and getting the order’s correctly on them (I messed up with ice and hot, accidentally charging a customer extra for an ingredient that wasn’t meant to be payed for because I didn’t know the difference)

Sorry to hear that you are struggling! But Starbucks is an extremely challenging work environment and still stressful even if you've mastered everything, so keep your chin up! Believe in yourself and keep trying. If you want to be on hot bar, ask. Try to take deep breaths and center yourself so you can focus and learn from your mistakes. You might keep a tiny notepad in your pocket and write down things that you need to do. Write down the correct way to do it and it will stick better. Also take advantage of the free drinks and get to work early to make yourself a latte and get caffeine in your system before you clock in! Good luck. You got dis.

That’s how it is for a long time! If you want to be better sooner, then take times outside of work to memorize the drinks/recipes then study how to make those drinks

I’ve been at Starbucks for almost five months now and I still can’t get ahold of how to be fast on bar I love the place I work but if I don’t improve I’m afraid they’ll let me go

Sequencing is key. I got an intense lesson today by a lead about it bc I was slow on bar. While their tone was a bit sharp, they really did help me. This job comes at a fast pace & I’m learning to not overthink. Hopefully over time, the motions will be second nature. :)

This is currently happening to me right now. 2 weeks in and 30 minutes of cold bar training and I feel like I’m expected to know everything. The drive thru people were getting mad at me for being slow and rolling their eyes even management

My training process was almost nonexistent. So my anxiety was through the roof. I’m STILL leaning. Mostly through osmosis, (or when my favorite shift manger is there). They didn’t give me any manuals or notebooks . I made flash cards on my phone by screenshots but I’m lazy. But, I actually learned bar just by asking my partner if I could help her. Now I kind of like making drinks (except frappuchinos). I literally just started register a week ago. I’m still trying to navigate it. Question, is there a video or website that teaches register? And, What product do you use on your eyebrows?
@CCela1608

Only the training modules actually teach the register unfortunately! I might dig around online and see if I can make a video to help y'all

You can also find some online if you Google them! If you ever get the chance to pick up shifts at another store ask there too. Sometimes you can find shift exchange groups in your area

@CCela1608
@CCela1608 2 жыл бұрын
Hmm honestly that's hard to say. You do have to memorize some but there are plenty of ways to hack the system. If you're good with muscle memory and learn well from repeating movements you might get by! A lot of the recipes are very similar so it's not that much to memorize. You can get better with practice for sure.

Why at our new local coffee shop the baristas would rather educate me on how I want my coffee instead of just making my coffee.. like I know frappes are children’s coffee, but ))): it’s enjoyable
