In this video, I show two methods that you can use to try to fix lock-rock on your pocket knives. These methods only work on liner-lock and frame-lock knives.
1. Adjust the lock-arm making it push harder on the tang of the blade.
2. Adjust the spot where the lock-arm and the tang of the blade meet each other.
Both methods are risky and you could destroy your knife by using these methods.

If I decided to fix a lock-rock problem with the heat-&-freeze method, and I snapped the locking bar, my knife wouldn't be permanently useless. I've got a mate who is a fabricator, and I would get him to TIG weld it into a fixed blade! Although I suppose if you did that with a necklace knife it would look a bit silly....🤣😂 Please don't take me to seriously, I try not to! Great informational video, Jake. Keep up the good work.(you can take that last bit seriously, mate!)

Nice video! I put a very small piece of rubber between the handle and the linerlock. Now this piece of rubber pushes the linerlock more into the tang of the blade. A con of this is that the detent is more now but it still moves freely😊👍🏻👍🏻

I am glad you were able to improve your knife. I expect that your fix will wear down fairly quickly as the rubber deteriorates, but you can just redo the fix.

Thanks. I have been a tinkerer type guy all my life and I very much like helping others learn to fix things too. Our culture throws away so much stuff just because it needs adjustment sometimes.

Thanks Jake. I really needed this video to operate on my drop exclusive boker urban trapper. Titanium though, so I'm gonna be extra careful. Such a beautiful knife...I'll replace it if I do break it cuz luckily you can still get em on Amazon.

if it's new, send it back. I suggest only try to fix it if you can't send it back and get your refund.

Hi Jake, thanks for all your info and reviews. What’s the name of that knife your showing at start and end of this video?

It's a cheap piece of junk of a knife - I showed how to fix it because that company makes a lot of junk. I have since tossed out the knife. I have forgotten what the model is but it was an Eafengrow knife. The other reason I don't like Eafengrow is because they lie about what steel they use on their blades. If I remembered the model information I would give it but that's been lost from my memory.

That knife is no longer available, I think. Well let me check. Jordy, please email me and ask me about the "tiny folding knife" that I hang around my neck. I should be able to get some links together for some good options. CanadianCuttingEdge at gmail.com

So if you remove the lock rock then you have also increased the detent. Now your left with a stiff detent? I guess it's a trade off.
@CanadianCuttingEdge
@CanadianCuttingEdge 2 жыл бұрын
If you remove lock rock with increased pressure on the lock arm you automatically increase pressure on the detent ball because it is attached to the lock arm. There are some other ways to soften a detent. I recently did a video series on detent issues like one where the detent is too strong, the first video is here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGfbhZJvbKmLZqM You make a good point. Making a change often had knock on effects that may be undesirable.

It's certainly not magic, but I have had it do enough to help loosen screws enough to take them apart, otherwise I wouldn't have suggested it. I'm not just talking for the sake of talking. Is 100°C guaranteed to help, of course not, but it's a safe amount of heat for the vast majority of handle materials and it can indeed help loosen some threadlocker often enough to make it worth trying.
