CCM = Clews Competition Machines or back in the 70's when they were the only ones building 4 stroke MX bikes affectionately known as Clews Concrete Mixers. I was looking at some at the Classic TT a couple of weeks ago with the idea of possibly buying one but the pricing system seemed very strange. The models they had on display were loaded with billet and carbon parts along with other extras alloy wheels ohlins etc. When I ask for a price list for the extras so I could price one up before placing the order, I was told you put your deposit down and then they send you a price list of the extras you can add but i was told it was around £2000 for the carbon and Billet pack. I guess you could easily double the list price of some of the bikes they have on display due to the extras fitted. Clearly a case of if you have to ask you can't afford it. But they are a stunning looking bike.

Honda did this a lot, they had a few roadsters in the 90s with twin exhausts. It helps get the gases out aiding performance in short bore singles (and long bore but it is more noticeable in short boar). I could be wrong but I think the old British Panther, usually only found welded to a sidecar, also had twin exhausts. That was long bore, very long bore.

The 200 hp superbike is pretty pointless on modern UK roads. I always kept below 100 hp and went for lighter bikes. I had a KTM Duke 690 which is all the speed you need to be honest. If I had another Bike it would be one of these.
@ryanokeefe124 жыл бұрын
I hope that in the last year you've learnt to ride on the left or right of the lane so that you aren't directly in the centre, where all the cars drip their oil. The "weave"" you get on the front end will be the same on all lighter bikes if you're going to use all 4 fingers on the clutch and the brake levers. It's also a really good way to tuck the front in a panic situation.

Technically... it's an SWM motor from the RS650r or SuperDual, which traces it's lineage back to the now defunct Italian Husqvarna, namely models SMS630/TE630 back when they were part of Cagiva/MV Agusta (and briefly BMW) ownership. That motor is actually fairly stout for a single, though they have been known to eat clutch basket spring washers and grenade the motor at around 12k miles if left unchecked.
@Uninfluenceable5 жыл бұрын
@Dan Gleeballs I wouldn't necessarily say that. As far as I know the engines are still produced in Italy by SMW, along with the frames, and other ancillary parts coming from various suppliers like KYB, Brembo and Keihin. It's just really the plastics and fuel tank that are made in China, and to be honesty probably better quality than the Acerbis/Polisport garbage quality stuff they had on the later year Husqvarnas.

@TheMissendenFlyer5 жыл бұрын
..they make the limited runs because it means they can get around some of the vehicle regs - if you run small batches you don't need to be Euro wotsit compliant and all that...I think you can get special approval to make up to 250 bikes before you need to comply with the big-boy regs....that (I guess) is why they keep bringing out subtle variants of the same bike, they can call it something different and make another 250....clever!

I'd love one of these but it's a shame they can't have the 75ish bhp, 690 engine. The Vitpilen is £6999 at the moment.Arguably less exotic but it's minimalist like the ccm and has loads more power. Would be a tough choice.
@twmbarlwmstar5 жыл бұрын
75hp from a single is sort of beyond rational expectation, you need a twin. There's physics that starts to get in the way. I agree with 75hp being a sweet spot on a 650cc though.
@drewiediggler13 жыл бұрын
Two years later and I've changed my mind 😅 I've owned a Vitpilen and now have the Foggy Stealth CCM. The CCM engine is vastly more characterful. Slower on the top end but very punchy midrange. I guess the Vitpilen is a shorter stroke,higher revving, maxed out motor with less soul to it. In retrospect I now prefer the old husky engine of the CCM.
