I'm not playing this game, but I played enough mmos to understand the scale of battle. This is something seriously enormous right there.
@SquareNoggin9 жыл бұрын
+iiperento Honestly the scale of everything in EVE is waaaay bigger than any other MMO. Part of it has to do with the fact that it's all one big server that all the players play in. I'm a long time MMO player as well and I just started playing EVE and let me tell you... this game takes it to a whole other level. I'm more of an industry guy (I don't focus on PvP combat at all really) and the economy is FASCINATING and incredibly complex.

Colin Bell From any gameplay I watch I'm left with the impression that the learning curve of this game is close to a learning curve to 3D modeling software :D
@SquareNoggin9 жыл бұрын
iiperento Not quite, but it's got a steep learning curve no doubt. I just started playing the game though, and I applied for EVE university (a corporation that specializes in bringing newbies into the fold) and honestly with their help I'm quickly becoming deeply immersed in the game. You pretty much have to interact with other players and get help from more experience people, but the community is fucking solid and it's so easy to find help. The game is set up in a way that if you continue playing you can quickly become an asset (or at least somewhat useful) to the corp that takes you in, so there's a lot of incentive to teach new players and help them find their niche. Either that or the community just loves bringing in new people and helping them out since it can be so daunting if you're going in solo. But yeah you won't get anywhere if you're not willing to do a lot of reading and research.

The monument itself is not that big.
@mycroft163 жыл бұрын
Over the years, the developers of the game have added monuments to battles, historic events, even individual players who have carved out names for themselves in universe. One player became famous for being the one everyone could trust in a game where you expect to be stabbed in the back by everyone at any second. HUGE quantities of in game currency flowed through his accounts as a broker for super capital warship trades. There's a statue (massive) to him in one of the systems. Every now and then he visits. The game is very very much player driven. These battles happen because of actual politics that evolve between player run corporations and alliances. Everything bought or sold in game from ammo to the largest ships are player made from raw materials recovered by players, etc. The scope of this game is unbelievable. And it is 1 game server. Everyone who plays EVE is playing together in 1 single instance of the game. They destroy a huge number of Titans and suddenly, 50 systems away where I'm mining ore, I see prices jump and switch what I'm mining to take advantage of the demand for x mineral. It's just so cool.

How many MMO's in the world could boast numbers like that? How many people can take part in massive conflicts that determine the rise and fall of empires in video games with thousands of players, where every single other warrior on the field is a living breathing person making tactical decisions? Coordinating with other tactical decisions? That turn into a massive strategy? That turns into a resounding victory or a crushing defeat? That is why: I. Love. This. Game.

My thoughts exactly. There is nothing like it, nothing that comes close. ISK I had spent on something may have helped someone buy a battleship they used to grind they credits they need to buy the modules they desired that kept them alive long enough to finish off a super cap in that battle. The consequences in this game are far more magnified than they are even in real life, where a stone thrown won't make a ripple, but a tsunami. The thousands of battles like this and these videos make me wonder how any shitty games like WOT/WOW can survive in competition truly dominated by the game play and ripple effect of EVE

@shurikozerov31649 жыл бұрын
Amatheon Hardly. I only log on once every few days when a corp mate (clan mate) pings me to let me know a particular target of opportunity has shown itself, though I will admit this one does have an unpredictable time bracket. Most times I can jump on randomly, get some trading or exploration or bounty hunting done within a reasonably predictable time frame, even in matters of 15 to 30 minutes if need be. Beyond that, character progression (the equivilent to leveling) is actually passive, even when offline, so just because you haven't had time the past week doesnt mean you really "fell behind" - hence why this is arguably the most schedule friend of the MMOs. Secondary progression, better known as your wallet also can be accrued passively with certain professions, including one that is essentially a bad version of Farmville, but that's against the point. EDIT: I only log on once every couple days because of certain ingame and real life stipulations. It's a sandbox so there is always something to do if you can convince yourself to go do it.

I hear alot of people say Star Citizen will blow Eve away. Truth is that SC is just another themepark with no real substance. You buy your ship and fly it but can you claim systems ? can you conquer systems ? can you build ships ? does it have an economy so complex like Eve Online ? For this reason alone Eve Online will remain the undisputed king of kings in my book. And with CCP Seagul having a vision and follow her hearth we believe.....Eve Online will be better with each and every patch. 07 Fly Reckles
@Onixstar5 жыл бұрын
SC and EvE have significant differences. In EvE you have much greater power (military and economic) than in SC, where the power is mostly held by NPC factions (mostly UEE). You can't claim or conquer systems in SC and you can probably only buy or steal ships. On the Economy side, I wouldn't be so sure. There are/were plans for a very detailed economy (e.g. a factory needs ore to produce something. This ore must come from a refinery. The refinery can get unrefined ore from players or NPCs who mined it. The goods that the factory produces must then be delivered to a trading hub. If only one of these components fails, the whole economy will be impacted by it.). I don't know what they will do in the end though. Only time will tell.

Ok um .. I dont have PC :( .... i just started today with EVE echoes mobile... It's so confusing :'( 30 hops is alot .. Lol... I've decided to be a miner but i think i i cant get paid immediately for the ores that i sell .. I always lose money when selling them :/ not sure why but ill keep mining and selling and hopefully some prophet comes back... I have a good mining ship and mining guns and trade skills. I just think maybe the station that i sell at is not populated. I will move to a more populated station i think. But they may be a more less secure area and ive left my battle ship in another station so far away so im stuck with industrial for now :/ suck at this game but I'll keep pushing through the learning curve. Unfortunately nobody seems to be of any help on the chat :/ i will teach myself lol

@sam236967 жыл бұрын
The coolest part of the battle is that fact that both sides received massive reinforcement when the sun rose over the North American continent. Truly an awesome concept for all gamers to behold, even if we don't play the game. I kind of wish they would record automatically once a large battle begins. Say when TiDi begins the area with the most traffic starts saving the battle into secondary storage so once it is complete people can view the battle in real time. As if the battle is kind of the rendering stage. You can go back and view these battles on your game as a spectator.

I've never understood why players confuse Call of Duty with EVE. If you want a game that's all about how fast you can move a dot in the middle of your screen, go with COD. People play EVE because it requires critical thought, coordination, and planning - There are tons of other games if all ya wanna do is repetitious thoughtless input.

Normally, wrecks disappear after a certain amount of time. The developer of EVE Online, CCP Games, decided to put a "monument" as you say where these wrecks remain in space. It's a way to remember this giant battle that took place. (None of these monument wrecks are salvageable.)
@waffles90858 жыл бұрын

i think a battle of this scale would be utterly impossible in star citizen. In battles of this size the eve servers run at about one tick every 10s. In a game like starcitizen that simulates ships a lot more detailed a battle of this size would crash every server the world has to offer and even if you managed to run it at the same speed ie one tick every 10s it would feel horrible.

TheMenIdo IF you do end up a paying customer by signing up through his link, ask him for around 250 million isk (eve's gold). Because by signing up through his buddy link if/when you become a paying customer he'll get an in-game item called PLEX which he can sell for around 700 million isk atm. Least he can do is give you some of the isk, and 250 million will last a new player a couple months if they don't do really stupid shit.

***** TheMenIdo Heh well the videos aren't meant to really be this epic displays of skill or anything. Nor are they meant to be educational. I been around for 5.5 years and I know my shit for the most part. If you wanna know more about PVP specifically I recommend actually going out and doing it, which is why every "PVP School" out there is very hands on. Theory only goes so far and I'll admit I lack in real practice :P home | xercodo The mail I got from CCP here is legit, my name is known within the CCP offices, and I'm considered an "EVE celebrity" by some (though I would have considered the one that gave me that label a celebrity herself, go figure). I;d certainly like to benefit from the buddy invite, but half the time they may not even sub anyway. Hell more than half of the guys I make this offer to will take the invite and never actually contact me for questions let alone for any ISK. Also up front doesn't work because if he uses a PLEX I can't pick a PLEX as a reward (to prevent abuse of the system to use the same PLEX over and over on trial accounts). So if he wants any ISK as a result of my selling a PLEX he has to use some real money to start with.
