This is why the Sheriff's Departments all over America are so respected. For one the Sheriff's & deputies are the only Constitutional law enforcement in America. I see people saying that Sheriff's are "Constitutional Law Enforcement" but I don't think they actually know what that means. There is nothing in the US Constitution pertaining to Sheriff's and not all state constitutions have provisions for the creation of a Sheriff. I think people believe since a Sheriff is elected, it pertains to the state or US Constitution. In South Carolina Constitution there is a provision for each county to elect a clerk of the circuit court, a sheriff, a coroner, and a solicitor for the judicial court. All the specific authority, duties, and requirements are decided by the SC General Assembly (Legislature), not the Constitution, and to some extent the governing body of each county. (Pay, benefits, etc). I looked at quite a few state Constitutions some years ago, can't remember how many Sheriffs offices were created by the state Constitutions and which states they were created by the legislature, just like police depts are. I do remember that Alaska, Connecticut, and Hawaii have no provisions for Sheriffs.

​@@guyintenn - Yep, nowhere in the federal constitution does it mention a sheriff. Personally, I think it's some gateway to some sovereign citizen indoctrination. If I remember correctly, it's six states that do not mention sheriff in their constitution. The ones that do, the sheriffs are still required to comply with state law.

this is why I could never be a cop......or a nurse....or anybody that deals with the public. You got people that has no idea about anything and thinks that blurting out whatever words helps them. in this situation no idea what the law is at all........no education of what the law is. I could never do it.....I use to think it would be interesting but I'd never be able to deal with a bunch of women screaming and cursing just crap for no reason other than being inconvenienced. On top of all that........on top of all that........you run high risk being a cop of being threw in jail from racial biased.
