In my opinion Yoongi doesn't speak English most of the time because he doesn't want to not because he can't 😂 But still I think he really is good at English, I'll place him Second to Namjoon in English comprehension but cuz it's not his native language he probably has that inhibition to speak.

11:54 Here's something you guys probably don't know about "Jimin, you got no jams" Namjoon proved his wordplay skills by saying that. So basically "nojam" is a Korean word that translates to “something not fun at all.” (노잼 [no-jem] is another slang word with 잼 [jem]. It's a compound word made up of 노 [no] meaning “no” and 잼 [jem] meaning “fun”.) So when he said "You got no jams" it basically was a wordplay in both korean and English. It sort of means the same thing in English as well!!! Genius😅

Yeah and Namjoon does this a lot even in regular conversation, not just lyrics. Like the recent suchwita episode he kept inserting seemingly random English words but it's because they sound similar to Korean ones that make more sense in the conversation. It's always fun.

They’re not fluent besides RM but they’ve improved A LOT. I think RM & jungkook have the best pronunciation. Suga knows more English than he lets on, probably secretly fluent 😂 but I think it’s a confidence thing. Tae, jhope and jin are pretty decent at holding conversations with broken English and understanding to an extent. I don’t hear jimin speak English much but when he does it’s so cute 🥹

nah, they're still can't speak english. to be honest, it's so far for being fluent not even almost like you said. i'm sorry i love them so much, but let's just be honest. just because they're singing in english doesn't mean they can speak english. we saw jungkook struggle a lot in his live to speak english to the point he really wants to take english lesson and same goes with the other members. the 2nd member who quite understand english most likely is yoongi. i guess he did take the english lesson very seriously. i really appreciate them tho, i know they're so busy and perhaps have no time to learn english. i am also still struggling a lot with my english. this comment prolly has a lot of mistakes but i do hope you all understand my comment 😅

pls yoongi speaking perfect english after joon said that no one could speak english is still one of my favourite yoongi moments the way he had joon shook, this man had all this perfect english hidden away in a vault and i know i'm right considering how amazing he has been with understanding since they made their us debut in 2017 and most recently on his us tour. all the member's english has improved so much i'm genuinely so proud of them all. i love your reactions to these personality type videos so much, its so light hearted and fun!

I think from their debut year from 2013 to 2017 the next member who can communicate in English is Jin since he studied in Australia, then followed by Suga. But right now, I think some of them were learning the language, it was revealed by RM during their interview - Suga, JK, and J-hope. They will be fluent one day since they're travelling most of the time in the US.

For a cover, I highly recommend JK's version of "Falling" by Harry Styles. I bawled my hearts out hearing his voice. He really owned the song. Ang that's the thing about JK, he knows exactly how to deliver a song. He said one time that whenever he makes a cover, he tries to give his own color to it, on how he interprets it. Once you hear it, i think you'll get what I'm saying lol

Yes it didnt show much JK here and he was a bit more introverted then so didnt really speak much. But now his english is pretty good and he attempts to communicate with us in english on his live streams. What amazes me about him though is when he sings in English and when he covers songs. Youd swear that English was his native language. I read somewhere that J-hope and suga are secretly supposed to be fluent in english as well lol.

I think Suga has always been pretty good but is secretive about it because he lacks confidence in speaking. Hobi has improved the most because he isn’t afraid to just speak and tries more actively than the others but he wasn’t fluent before. JK has definitely improved as well and to me has the best pronunciation, especially when singing in English. Sometimes his pronunciation is even better than RM on certain words.

I appreciate how much time and effort they put into learning another language. It is not easy. Especially when English pronunciation is different from most countries. Whether they know a little English or they're fluent, I wish people would stop asking them to speak it during lives. I wish more American interviewers would place just a small amount of interest in Korean culture to make them feel more welcomed.

Yeah it’s crazy how much someone’s tone of voice changes depending on the language their speaking. I went to Suga’s concert two weeks ago and majority of the time he spoke English and he’s voice was definitely much deeper.

Have you seen Jimin and Suga on Jimmy Fallon recently? Jimin spoke a lot of English, though in a slow, deliberate manner. Suga chose to speak in Korean when answering interview questions, but didn't seem to struggle when he spontaneously spoke English in the more informal moments. He said that when he comes back to the US again (presumably as 7 after military service), he wants to be able to speak in English (to ARMY in their concerts) without an interpreter. Jin and J-hope are not afraid to speak English. Jin seems comfortable in simple, everyday situations like in Bon Voyage, as well as in interviews. We see J-hope talking with J. Cole and Becky G, but he still needs an interpreter for more complex conversations. JK spoke quite well in the subway episode on Jimmy Fallon, but I haven't seen it again since. In a recent Bangtan Episode (either the Grammys or the AMAs), J-hope commented that now V doesn't need to memorize sentences anymore, he can just memorize the points and create sentences himself. During their English ments in PTD concerts, he sounds the most natural and unrehearsed, but I haven't seen him speak recently in everyday conversations.

English and korean is so different when it comes to grammar so learning for them can be really tricky. Everytime BTS try to communicate with people in other languages i'm impressed. They're trying so hard for us. For example, in korean verb comes last in the sentence rather than being in the middle. That's why when V was talking about his hobbies he was saying it not in the right order like "movie watching, video shooting". Also they sometimes use strange words like "looking video" meaning "watching video" cause they're mostly translating it from korean to english (in korean you use word for "look" when you want to say "watch"). Oh, also my voice change when i'm speaking other languages, it's pretty common! Sometimes even my attitude changes. I used to hear in my native language i sound scarier than in english or spanish.

7:48 When V and Jk look around at the members like that it's bc they're looking for reassurance from they're Hyungs. Especially when it comes to press, interviews and language. They get very shy around groups and feel a bit uncertain. As a hyung, it's the older members responsibility to make the younger ones feel at ease or more confident. That's part of what being older in Korea means. Respect but also responsibility to take care and educate your younger brothers/sisters/members

Namjoon has said that he often has to putch his voice up, his voice is actually quite a bit deeper, but he can be more easily understood when speaking lower in english.

Something they’ve gotten better at is not adding “eu” at the end of words that have consonants. There is a reason why Korean speakers do this and why it’s a hard habit to break when learning English pronunciation. In Korean, there are certain rules that pertain to words that end with consonants, especially when they are English loan words. Korean words that end with consonants are considered “unreleased” or basically have a hard stop. If you want to vocalize the consonant, a vowel must follow (with the exception of m, n, r and ng). The “eu” sound is actually them ending the word with the vowel sound “으“. So words like “speak” would be said like “스피크” (seu- pi - keu) and words like English might be said like 잉글리씨 (eeng - geu- lee - shee) which again is them adding on a vowel to the end of the consonant but this time it’s the “이“ or “i” vowel. This is the struggle in any language, trying to learn different pronunciation rules instead of sticking the ones you know in your native language. This is what gives very distinct accents that can be either heavy or not - it all depends on how much they are relying on sounds they already know to replace the ones used in the language they aren’t used to. This is what makes RM’s English to impressive as someone who only studied English in school and watched English television - he has a knack for listening and mimicking the sounds which is what we all did at one point as toddlers, mimicking the sounds our parents made before we were able to study and learn our own way of speaking. Anyway, that’s my novel of a comment under an old video. Just felt like sharing all that because language is fascinating.

This was so fun! I feel like after Namjoon, it’d be Jhope, then Yoongi and Jin tied, then JK, then Jimin and V. I remember it was said that Jhope purposefully studied English a lot to take some pressure off RM when they were doing a lot of American interviews.
