Oh my god what a difference!!! Bryston cd player sounds so much better. I detect a serious stereo image problem with the dac transport combo. The image plane seems to lean towards the left side producing a very bad, unbalanced stereo image. With the Bryston cd player the music sounds coherent, cohesive, as a whole. Very live and very transparent, too

That is a nice sounding CD player, but the transport and DAC combination sounds effortless and more natural.

CD Transport + DAC is better. More airy and realistic sounding.

The CD player sounds very digital with very bright highs and sharp transients. The CD Transport/DAC sounds much more natural.

So first, who is the artist here. I would want to listen to it on my own system as a reference to first, but here is what I “hear” on my system at home through KZbin. I think the Bryston is more revealing. There is definitely more space around her beautiful voice. For my ears, the instruments used reach highs not always found in other genres of music. The Trans/Frips combo, does a very good job of taking the edges of what the Bryston reveals. And it’s a more pleasing sound. Share the artist so I can hear what you heard!

With the CD player the music comes from the speakers, with the Transport + Dac the speakers disappear.

Thanks for the tests, it is always useful to have audio review. Surely agree of the superior quality of the combination transport + DAC, nevertheless must highlight that each of these components costs about 2500$ so it is reasonable that the Pontus could deliver more than the integrated DAC inside the Bryton BCD1 (without diminish the quality of the Bryton). Definitely with a system like this and if you already have the Pontus available the Jay's is the optimal match. Thanks

That whole system sounds like a big cell phone no bass get some speakers

Those speakers are extremely bass heavy..no need to "get some speakers"..the music is recorded that way.

I have a Cambridge CD player with similar specs as the Bryston. I am considering purchasing a Bryston DAC and use the Cambridge as a drive only with digital outs to the Bryston DAC. Curious if there will be much difference?.

I used to own Cambridge cd player some time ago (c840), the sound was quite nice and natural but not as much detail and dynamic as Bryston cd. I think adding Bryston DAC to your cd should make a difference, but how much , I can't tell. From my experience, Bryston made a very good DAC.
