Ford CD4E / Mazda LA4A-EL is found on Ford Contour, Ford Telstar, Ford Probe, Mazda 626, Mazda MX-6, Mazda Tribute, Mercury Mystique and probably a couple other models. It was Ford and Mazda's main unit for automatic transmissions from 1994-2002. It was still available after 2002 for some models but it began phasing them out in 1997. I was wondering if you know what my problem was I have a 05 Mazda Tribute 3.0 automatic all wheel drive when I go to stop the car continues to pull and stall. It is almost like in the torque converter is locked up wanted to know if you had any suggestions thanks

I think this was for the 4 cylinder Mazda MX6. The v6 has 4EAT transmission

hi hiram great videos, i wonder if you could make a video how to adjust flare and bumps on 09g valve body after i cleaned it up still feels the issue 2-3 bumps sometimes i switch solenoids same issue. thanks hiram and god bless you.

Great videos on the cd4e, I have a 2005 Escape with the V6, transmission performs flawlessly but for one thing: A "flare" shift between 2nd and 3rd gear. The transmission is currently in the car, the check engine light is NOT on. My suspicion is a sticking 2-3 shift valve. The problem didn't come on slowly, just one day it was there. I bought the car used, and was probably the first to drain the pan and put in fresh fluid at 180K miles. The old fluid was dirty, assuming friction material, but now seems to be maintaining its red color. I'm leaning towards leaving the transmission in, pulling the pan, removing the valve body, and getting the valve unstuck (if that's the problem). Or maybe just replacing the valve body entirely. Before all that though, maybe a can of Sea Foam TT-16?? Any ideas you have would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!

Great and helpful video on this transmission, I'm planning to do just a shift kit installation since my transmission works well and plan on keeping it like that, it's the easiest and cheapest way I presume.

Got this trans on 05 escape. I'm starting to feel some bump in 1-2 shift also a bump 2-3 shift under slow accelerations. But is fine when I take of at a faster pace. Would like to fix it before it gets worse. Was gonna put some Lucas in it. Watched all your videos on this trans. Thanks for taking time to make them.

98 Contour V6. When CD4E is cold shifts weird 1-2 after 5 restarts of the engine roughly 10 mins apart, shifts like its flawless. When on highway TCC stuck off, P1744.

I know this video is 8 years old however I am attempting to fix my 06 tribute. I had slipping from 2to 3 snd over drive light flashing but no codes. I took off valve body and took apart and cleaned. I put back with screen in correct position and now car barely moves in any gear. Not sure what I did wrong. Was working way better before I attempted to clean it up. Any ideas?

What makes the V6 Mazda Tribute transmission different from the V6 Ford Escape in the 2003 model year? Also what is different between the early Mazda V6 trans thru (1/27/03) and the late version after (1/28/03)?

Not sure if you are still checking comments on this, but I have an '08 Escape LTD AWD that is leaking about 1/2 cup of Tx fluid every few days. I put a new band in it last year (broke) and it's been OK. I am wondering if it is valve body pressure. I see the kit you used in this video, but not the seals. Do I have to buy a full rebuild kit or what do you recommend for seals for this repair? Thx!!

My wife is working on one of these cd4e transmission out of 99 626 and she is trying to determine if it is a good candidate for this shift kit or if the transmission is too far gone and needs a rebuild as well. Do you have any advice you could give on this?

I have a 05 Mazda Tribute with a 3.0 automatic it feels like my torque converter is locked when I go apply the brakes it keeps pulling forward and tries to stall out if I hold the brakes on to long. what would be the cause of this problem?

Hi from the UK. I have got oil in the harness connector socket on top of the box.is this normal as I'm having intermittent issues like hunting for a gear and sometime failure to shift.the car is a ford mondeo

Hiram, I have a 2002 Mazda Tribute with a hard Drive to Overdrive shift. If you turn the Overdrive off the Transmission works great. Do you think installing the shift kit might fix my problem or do you think the Transmission is already damaged?

@Hiram Gutierrez Hello Hiram, what would you suggest I do first on a cd4e with low line pressure...I have roughly 10 percent of requested line pressure. When cold car will move briefly but with any warmth at all I lose all drive forward or reverse. I'm a mechanic myself but I don't often deal with transmissions. Eres pipa vato. My 08 escape wont go into reverse. I took the pump off and its not the 2 4 band. Bless me with some knowledge sir if you see this. What can I check?

Thank you for keep showing inportant videos , You are good, Do you have any video that show how replace pack selenoids, or how to improve the pressure of the valve body. In the mornings it is neutralized for a minute and then applied normally, on trans ford explorer 98. I repared the transmission 4 months ago and was failure valve body. I'm sorry. I've tried that and wasn't successful. It slides out to far to be able to reset the friction plates.

I rebuilt my escape transmission about a year ago. I put the shift kit in new clutch drum, bushing, bands and clutches. It worked great till last weekend. While driving i noticed a little flare from first to second . it happened a few times more on the way home then all the sudden it would not move. I turned the car off let it sit for a few minutes put it in gear and for about a minute the car will move till you let off the gas then nothing. if you turn it off let it sit for a minute then it will work for about a minute. it is like it is running out of transmission fluid. do you have any idea what happened

That ain't like you to leave the outside of a transmission case lookin dirty like that Hiram. Is the case washer is broke down right now, or is it just dis-colored to the point where it won't come clean?

I figured it was either dis-colored in a way that wouldn't come clean, or your case washer was broke down and you had to clean the case by hand. True about it being really important that the inside being clean. The shops coming along real nice now. Almost got my teardown table done and it's lookin a lot cleaner and more stocked with stuff than it was.

CD4E on '01 - '07 Escape and Tribute(if yours is automatic this is what you have G5M is the manual trans) goes out so much there should be a factory recall.. Seriously I've never seen one get past 150k(best case senerio) without needing at least a valve body rebuild.. Most shops will charge you for a tranny swap even if they just rebuild valve body, and that's around $5,000.00.... Shade tree mechanics will do it for about $3,000.00, and just buying a refurb w/solenoid with lifetime warranty and self-labor is $250-$500. It has nothing to do with maintenance either.. I did factory intervals with Max Life Mercon and filter kits and mine went out at 145k.. Most people it happens way more frequently.. I suggest self labor and a lifetime warranty rebuild, or take your rebuild to a trusted mechanic and have them install..

Anyone here knows how to get the transmission fault codes on a 94 mazda mx6 automatic transmission ..mine has a hold light flashing putting on drive the car doesnt move unless playing with my throttle revving it up and it moves then hold started to flash

Thanks for your comments. So I understand from this that an old CD4E valve body will be a little worn and the kit will compensate for the ware and make it last longer than it originally did.
