That actually looks so fun. I used to love crane games as a kid, but then after a while I noticed that more and more of them were rigged. If there was a random crane game around, there was a 98% chance that the claw would be so loose it was impossible to grab anything lol. But the adrenaline and pride of winning is unmatched 😤

The ones in Japan are actually not rigged like the US ones we used to get believe it or not, it is actually skill based or is built in a way that it requires a certain amount of moves to push the prize to the hole. Even those weird figure box ones that the boys had such a hard time with are actually possible to get consistently good at, to the point where I've seen guys in the arcades in akihabara who come in with suitcases and just clear out all the machines in order and then go next door to the second hand shop and resell it, and are good enough at consistently winning them to make a profit on it.

But for pretty much everything else (like the freaking noodle slide that took me forever to find) I hopped on the internet and searched with pictures and on these Japanese merchandise sites for the prices and used them as a reference. Ofc it's not perfect since some sites and sellers might sell the stuff for cheaper than others and since I had to change the currency from yen to dollars. If I found multiple prices on the same item I just used an average of the prices.

I think a good thing to remember is: 1-2 claws are skill, anything with 3 and above claws are payout that minion and seal that garnt won were on payout. After payout, the claw will become very strong (usually at 80-100% strength) and that is why he won the plushies even after he grabbed it the wrong way *payout means, before certain amount of attempts accumulated, the claw will be strong at start, and the lose their strength halfway and drop the prize (to make impression that it is doable and it is your fault that it falls).

I watched many crane / ufo machine youtubers and learned some behind the scene stuffs and tricks. many of these youtubers have their own machines even open their own arcade, so we get to know how these machines operate. I did play on my local arcades and I usually took my time and try some machines to see whether the machine is on payout or not (if it is on pay out, I will try to win it). for example if not on payout, claw machines they will loosen the grip on the way up or when already reach the top, on key master when you lift your hand from the button the key still go up and not stopping. on stacker you will see they "jump" on 2nd or last row, etc. one time I stood near one big plushies crane game for 2 hours to see their payout rate, and 80+ attempts, no one win the prize. it was so rigged lmao (I live in Indonesia) I've been to Japan twice now, I spent around 500usd combined, and I can absolutely tell you that 1-2 claws one are skill based (I only played few 3 claws one and rarely wins). I usually win figurines and stuffs around 1-5 attempts, above that and I called it quit. I won so many prizes that my baggage is practically full of winning prizes. I think you can get a lot of prizes if you are not picky and pick the one that almost fall off or easy to win (need good judgemet). my winnings including (just few that I took picture of): - plushies: shiba inu, alolan marowak and togepi, rem, and nyanko sensei - cheap figurines: senjougahara, few idol master, nero saber, few kancolle, few SAO - keychains kirby, mario, etc - sao yuuki pillow cover (not gonna lie, kinda embarassed about it lol)
