Question for next VPZD WHY Did scientists and PH experts trash evidence-based, expertly written, Pandemic Preparedness Plans (only Anders Tegnell stuck with the Plan), written specifically for such events? Some people have answered "fear", or, "we didn't know" Those are not answers! WHY DID THEY ABANDON PANDEMIC PREPAREDNESS PLANS???????????

Hey Z Dogg- can u address what the residents of east Palestine Ohio need to do considering the recent explosion of vinyl chloride? The EPA is telling them it’s safe to go back into their homes. U reach a broad audience and I appreciate your views

That’s easy, don’t listen to the EPA. The EPA is being given their talking points by Norfolk Southern. Remember that the EPA cleared opening downtown NYC shortly after 9-11 and there has been a massive amount of physical damage that came from that call. The issue in Ohio is that the chemicals are going to, or already have, seeped into the water table and contaminated everything. The Ohio River is going to carry the chemicals downstream and the damage that is going to come from this derailment is going to extend for a hundred miles or more. The cloud of chemicals will also carry on the wind and will contaminate everything for several dozen miles in every direction. We should be looking at Ohio as having been hit by a nuclear blast. Number one thing to do will be to burn your house to the ground to get out of the mortgage and collect any cash you can and leave the area, likely the entire state

I’d also like to add this about masking… I wonder what the global impact of masking was on autistic children. Autistic individuals often experience difficulty interpreting the unspoken rules of social engagement/communication, including facial expressions/body language. After an in depth observational study on my autistic middle child and 3 same aged children with a similar neurocognitive profile, they struggled m, even more so, to interpret nonverbal rules of spoken engagement when school closed and pivoted to online learning until the end of the 2020 school year. During the 2020-21 school year they masked and deeply struggled to communicate and learn. When I asked my middle schooler why the summer camp our district offered was such a positive change from school during the year (other than the obvious spending 3 hours with his favorite music teacher engaging in music sessions) and he said, “I can see everyone’s faces”, my heart just sank. Global studies desperately need to be conducted in this area.

Neurodiverse Mom, my wife (a dermatologist, who in light of ZDogg's video regularly takes care of actinic keratoses😉), and I have a high-functioning daughter with Asperger's who has been a stellar student her entire life. Not only did masking impact her ability to pick up facial expressions, but in the brief time that her school did remote virtual learning I watched her go from a highly motivated student to one who struggled to even stay awake while "attending" virtual classes. Blessedly, she and her peers returned to onsite classes at the start of the fall 2020 school year and mask mandates for school children were dropped for the entire 2021-2022 school year by mandate of our Florida governor, with the vast majority of students at her school opting not to wear them. Not a single child in her fairly large school subsequently suffered any severe illness... not a single one. So my daughter only really struggled academically for a couple of months in the panic-ridden springtime of 2020, and has consistently been a high honor roll student the past two and a half years. What has struck me as the most shocking thing since 2020 is how utterly different life can be for US citizens based on what specific state, and even county, they reside. Honestly, life has seemed almost normal for us since the fall of 2020 and the vast majority of local businesses have survived as they only briefly closed in the spring of 2020. EXTREMELY thankful that we live PRECISELY where we do.

@Rob Carrero , know my reply was long but it basically shares that thanks to living in Florida the time she wore one was minimal... primarily in 2020 when absolutely mandated by schools and businesses. While covid is still around (and likely always will be), I'm wondering if we should do a "retrospective" on the things we learned about the medical community, science, communication, and various public responses to the pandemic. The early strains of COVID were bad but still only 2% mortality rate of confirmed infected. While this is very high and scary - it is very small in comparison to Spanish Flu, Small Pox and just about every major past pandemic in history (i.e. Black Death). I look at this as a "test run" for humanity. In my opinion, mostly failed. If this were a true global medical emergency (i.e. small pox vs The Aztecs) - humanity would be royally screwed. We might have a handful of hyper-paranoid picking up the pieces, but who knows, they might be too paranoid to ever come out of hiding. If we are going to have a decent chance of standing up against a serious pandemic, we need to learn lessons from this one.

Someone please explain why - O-why - we had to mask preschoolers in my program? Yes, we are federally funded and we were "required" under performance standards to do this. And then magic happens and the emergency health orders are going to expire May 11. My go-to has always been Cochrane library - and lack of RCTs so very disturbing. These kids are going to pay the price for a very long time. Mental health disorders through the roof, fear of attachment, increases in fighting and violent behaviors. Crushes the soul.

I’d like to see a study not on if masks work or don’t work but IF mask wearing helps reduces inoculation. Did someone who had a mask on while sucking in Covid air turn out better than no mask? I work in EBM, and the best source for laypersons is probably The Cochrane Library. Their "Systematic Reviews" are the gold standard of EBM, and each includes a summary for laypeople. Many medical societies are also fairly trustworthy, especially the American College of Cardiology, but some are less evidence-based. The FDA and CDC have been extremely disappointing these last few years. Depending on your appetite for science, there are KZbin channels like "Sketchy EBM" that offer brief, simplified principles that you can use to critically appraise research claims yourself.

The original Plain Language Summary for this review stated that 'We are uncertain whether wearing masks or N95/P2 respirators helps to slow the spread of respiratory viruses based on the studies we assessed.' This wording was open to misinterpretation, for which we apologize. While scientific evidence is never immune to misinterpretation, we take responsibility for not making the wording clearer from the outset. We are engaging with the review authors with the aim of updating the Plain Language Summary and abstract to make clear that the review looked at whether interventions to promote mask wearing help to slow the spread of respiratory viruses.

A couple of tips if you want to make some improvements. Pull the camera back and don't sit side by side. It is just weird. Sit at an angle facing each other like a normal conversation and put your mikes on the side you are facing towards. You'll thank me - really!

@@sallyfellows8281 LOL...I don't think it makes any difference since they twisted in their chairs for a lot of the time and were turning toward each other half the time anyway. It was just awkward visually. Perhaps he should have just worn a mask to keep the sputum contained? As far as germs, if they are airborne it wouldn't make any difference considering the time they were together. If the germs are transmitted by fomites they probably touched the same things in the same area such as the microphones. So seriously not sure what you think the difference would be.

The lighting is complimentary for Z Dogg , but Vinay should have a backlight (motivated by the studio light already in the shot) to seperate him from the background. I have learned much from these discussions among curious educated professionals trying to make sense of what is going on in the world. You both are quick to remind everyone you were always and remain politically left, but neither of you can deny reality has moved you towards the opinions of the conservative right, who typically hold that reality conforms to a natural order, and so does morality. You get to accuse the villains of wrongdoing because you assume moral absolutes do exist, can be known and should be adhered to.

Just FYI, no one is "brown enough" not to get skin cancer from too much sun exposure. That's why that one African tribe coats themselves in mud, so they don't get sunburned 👌. Thankfully I have black cousins who grew up in CA and they taught me to just put the sunscreen on. The sun burns us all, my friend.

KZbin changed it's ad distribution rate. Now instead of one or two ads per video, they "offer" between 5-12. They're doing it to try to get people to pay for premium accounts. It's not the individual content creators doing. To alleviate that issue, I think a content creator has to opt not to monetize the video. So, perhaps send an email to KZbin?

I have yet to hear any apologies for how we demonized good people with rational, dissenting views and questions. Who will stand up for the millions of children forced out of their education? Alt Middle was always the way to go, but our leaders don't seem to learn.

Still looking for something concrete to discuss about masking with my wife. Am I missing something other than the argument was "you're going to get COVID no matter what so what's the point of masking?". I don't think that's common sense, what about us that have toddlers or newborns that aren't vaccinated? Let's just give it to them now since they're going to get COVID in their life? What about the uncertainty of long term effects of COVID and the vaccine? You're telling me treatment isn't going to get better? I get masking isn't ideal but if it reduces the chance of submission and helps to prolong not getting COVID, it still makes a lot of sense to me. For the record I don't want to mask nor make everyone do it, but it makes sense that it reduces the chances of getting it. Also, did not vote for Biden.

The truth is that masks do work at preventing or mitigating the spread of many illnesses. Its why surgeons and medical personnel have always had to wear them in the OR. I somehow doubt that these people would be okay with their medical provider inadvertantly spraying any kind of inoculum on them when in the compromised position of a patient. It's a basic and proven health measure that relies on concientiousness and empathy for others, which apparently are uncommon qualities. Wearing a mask sometimes around people with weakened immunity or worrisome risk factors, especially if you have a cough or a splutter, is ultimately a common courtesy. Like washing your hands after you blow your nose before touching a doorknob. It's not asking much.

Retrospective study very low evidence. Watch the snesible medicine episode I think they mention the va study...... Also as an army man and member of my american legion post pretty involved "this is antidotal " majority of people who use the va are or va rated for some reason.. i would think vets who are rated by va would be more likely to get "long covid" due to higher rates of mental health diagnosises.

@@patrickmurray2340 it was a study of just VA patients. The video didn’t talk about it. The study retrospectively looked at veterans who got Paxlovid vs veterans who did not. They are a highly vaccines population as well. The more risk factors for severe disease the more likely Paxlovid caused a reduction in long covid (which better helps imply causation).
