The Vic Govt. container deposit scheme rewards Victorians with a 10-cent refund for every eligible can, carton and bottle they return. On quite a few occasions I found the reverse vending machines in shopping centre car parks to be full. When you found one that wasn't full, you had to stand there and individually feed each carton, can or bottle into the machines. I was told that the CDS Victoria Breakwater depot accepted recycling as part of the scheme in any quantity - no dramas even if you had a wool bale full of the recycling, they could process it quickly. I was impressed when I saw it for myself, and the second time I went there I asked if I could take a video so more people could see how it worked. This video shows it in action. They can process thousands of containers every day. You need to download the app so they can process your refund either to your bank account, papal account or you can donate it to a charity / sporting group etc.
This program is funded by the beverage suppliers and one I spoke to explained that they pay the government extra on top of the 10 cents the consumer gets, so that cost of processing can be paid to the collection organisation.
The government still collects the revenue before the container is filled, even if you don't take part in the recycling program.
The service at the Breakwater depot is fast and the team are friendly. I can recommend this business.
