Critics are wrong. New silica or recycled, that energy is needed to make the glass. The BIG benefit of glass and recycling it is the lack of landfill and pollution of land and sea. I'd rather glass than plastic. Here in Germany, almost all beer bottles are the same design with paper labels being the identifier. All these bottles are returned, WASHED and reused by any of the hundreds of breweries. Genius, simple and DECADES old system.

Such work cannot be done as profitably in USA. Too many environmental, safety, compensation, fire code, and numerous other regulations would eat 40x the profit margin.
