So excited to "walk" the CDT with you! Careful of those "not very smart" elk during mating/bugle season. They can be extremely unpredictable, awnry assholes. But oh so cool. A heard of bulls bedded down all around me (like 15' from my tent) while backpacking this spring. Was fun to fall asleep to the sound of elk snoring. Glad your body is holding up well! I relate to your comment how hard it would be to have the mind willing, but something broken to stop you. I'm dealing with that this year with my knee. It has brought me to emotional tears to not be able to hike the trails I really want to. Enjoy life to the fullest, especially when you are young and strong! Keep smiling and stay safe! 💜

How unbelievably beautiful Glacier natinal park is! You are walking through gold. The yellow of the leaves would never pop that bright if there were not dark grey clouds. So, when you saw that tree fall over in the wind, did you think back to the warning sing "killer tree" on the Appalachian trail? Could you imagine being on the wrong side of the tree you saw fall here? Isn't it right that city people on theur first hike are warned about tge danger of trees? I would not have been out hiking in that kind of nature with winds as strong as that.

Amazing accomplishment! Did you upgrade some of your gear for this one? Yes, you did winter on the AT, but I have a feeling this will be twice as extreme. A low pitched tarp is better in the wind than a tent. And tarps have more flexibility in where to pitch.
@mtadams2009Ай бұрын
@@RC-qf3mpI keep hearing this but I have never gotten wet in my tent, ever. I have watched him get his sleeping back very wet. No hate on tarps but I will take my tent over a tarp any day. They are not even that much lighter than my tent.
@RC-qf3mpАй бұрын
@@mtadams2009 not about weight but flexibility. See Jardine, Papa Hiker, and Evans Backpacking Videos for more. Tents require flat terrain and a large enough footprint. Tarps don’t. You only need a space flat enough for your back. If you like your tent, good for you. But no tent offers the versatility of a tarp, in the hands of a skilled user. If you don’t have skills, that’s another issue.

Have you reached out to KyleHatesHiking about doing video after you complete your journey. I can't believe you don't have more subscribers,
@JaruWalksАй бұрын
@@matthewthalhamer2825 I’d be happy to do podcasts when I’m done. I think I have less subscribers because my content is long, my talking segments are long, and because my story telling skills could be improved. I also don’t tailor my content in any way to audience desires. Nearly every other channel is trying to cater to audience desires: click-bait, only showing positivity, short videos, short talking bits, and focus on visual scenery, etc. I’m aware this is what the largest audience wants to see, but my project is to report my journey authentically which is at odds with these popular desires. I’ve lost over 500 subscribers from making critical but true statements, which I’m quite OK with.
