Welcome to my first video, be gentle hahaha. This video shows upgrading the before its time CDTV. We will go through adding Fast Ram, SCSI HD, HDMI out with pit falls.

Nice to see a CDTV being put in a room where it was intended! Mine is in the retro room and I've got similar upgrades. Haven't gone down the SCSI card route but I do have a gotek inside it. Might update it later.

Mate, finally got round to sitting down and watching this on me telly. Really nicely done mate. I love how it just "fits" in your modern lounge setup. It really is the best looking amiga ever made imho, and way ahead of it's time in terms of lounge room aesthetics. They did in the 90's what Play Station would do much much later, only the CDTV does it better.

really nicely done. I utterly regret selling mine. Got it from Commodore West Chester PA fire sale shortly before CD32 was released in 1993 for $289 plus shipping.

You say the db9 to USB works with the CD32. Does it support all CD32 buttons using that wireless joypad?

No soldering involved. Even the fan was just tools to swap. I love the cdtv.

@@martinconley8161 your CDTV is perfect and I’d like to do something similar. I’d love an Amiga in the living room within the guise of a CDTV. I’ve got most other versions from 500+, 600, 1200 and CD32 but always loved the aesthetics of the CDTV. Did you eventually try the PiStorm?

Welp I reacquired one for a relatively nice price. Adjusted for inflation I paid well below even the fire sale Commodore West Chester price of $289. In retrospect... ONE of the best and surprisingly expandable lower spec Amigas although you wouldn't have known at the time of its release. IT has an expansion slot, Video Slot, memory diagnostic connector, Socketed CPU, PLUS all the Amiga ports with MIDI thrown in for good measure. I am going to add Pistorm, Vampire 2, and Vampire 4 to mine and then decide what expansion will reside in it permanently. One of the most insane features I forgot about was the abilities to play CD audio from any CD independent of the Amiga audio. So you can finally get the DEATH METAL CD quality soundtrack Road Rash deserved. Add WHDLoad and modern amenities like gotek drives, SD readers, and blue SCSI you've got one sexy AMIGA... and wife.device has no idea what it is as it sits under TV in the living room.

Nice video 👍🏻 Shame you didn’t show the rear card fitments and how you got the new gear fitted around the back as this would have been nice to demo. I take it chip RAM in the CDTV can’t be upgraded to 2meg?

Thank you. I didn’t show the fitting for the rear as the language was bad and I was cutting my hands to bits trying to get it all to fit with all the switch cables and pi been in there. 2meg could be done with a mega chip but the drop in replacements are very expensive and not easy to get hold of, But I haven’t found anything I’ve played that doesn’t work with 1mb yet.

Ahh, looks good :) I have only given my CDTV the SCSI2SD and 8MB FAST RAM upgrade so far. So it sticks with Workbench 1.3. I am using it with a 1084S monitor, but not the black one unfortunately. So the Pi Zero is used as a RGB to HDMI converter? Have you thought about adding the PiStorm to this? I read it supports the CDTV, and if its to be a modern setting Amiga, that does seem to add a lot of useful features to it.

I have a PiStorm just not even tried it yet. but I will totally test it. CDTV still shows as experimental for now. but would be a good add on.

Do you need the edu card for this setup? Will the CDTV not boot without a card in the slot?

You don’t require Edu’s card. I just wanted to still have the 23pin RGB port still working just for a fail safe over the RGBTOHDMI. The original rf card was fine just didn’t want to damage that to fit hdmi and the buttons and switches. Just my OCD I guess.
