That looks a right pain! I had the same doing a repair on a QL microdrive cable which Sinclair just bodged into a sip socket for cheapness. ended up just soldering a row of header pins on.

Just for reference those ROMs you bought are probably (modified) A570 ones and not CDTV ones. The last CDTV ROM was v2.07 and the last A570 was v2.30. People regularly mis-sell A570 ROMs as CDTV ROMs. It is likely that the NVRAM won't work anymore. Very little software uses it so probably no big deal.

Thank you for this video, it's gonna be extremely helpful once I get all my upgrades together so I can put them all in at once. I'm gonna leave my CD-ROM drive alone after seeing the nightmare you went through in the previous video to replace the caps. And ribbon cables, I f**king hate them with a passion. thankfully mine are still functional... for now.

Nice to see a CDTV getting some love, it was a very nice machine but already doomed in my opinion because it was 1.3ocs vs new ecs 2.0 amigas, so it was old very soon after its release, wondering why c= didnt upgraded it to the new o.s and chips as soon as they were released

there is one smd cap in the remote that barfs Chris direction buttons and A B will work but keypad and mouse cursor controls stop when it fails, the do leak

Great vid Chris 👍🏻 Didn’t know about the cables on the CDTV, so good to know 😉 What do you mean the spelling for “Colour” is wrong 🤔 It’s the Queens English don’t you know 🤗😉🤣 I don’t get why in North America “Cheque” as in Banking terms as “Check”, when in 🇬🇧 Check means you are checking things are good 🤔 I know in 🇨🇦 they use both spelling terms 👍🏻

Great video! As always got me thinking about projects never finished in '90... I have an internal Zip drive and "Magicspin" DVD +rw drive I've wanted to try to fit into the 5.25" bay of my A2000 (just below the 2 floppies). Not sure what cable I'm going to need for either; they both have a 40-pin connector.

Over modulated sound. I got the same issue on my CDTV, recap didn't helped. So I've putted a simple passive volume regulator between a CDTV and amplifier. It basically acts like a resistor to lower down the pitch:) If the sound from headphones is ok, then this solution will work (it means that Paula is ok etc). If recap will not help in your case, I hope you'll find a reason.
