What about the Revolutionary era literature and early Fiction and poetry. You cannot completely leave out these pivotal periods of American literature which laid the foundation for the later American writing. His series of lectures on English literature is worth it, but sadly he disappointed me this time. It looks like he doesn't take American literature seriously..
