Maybe the best half assed report ever! Love the reception shots to check out people and the footage after the battery change was everything I need since I live far from NYC. Close up shots were very clean and no shaking. Nice and quiet in the gallery during your most informative monologue. Thank you so very much for this work of art.

I liked both! maybe an idea for the future. Show the opening night's atmosphere for a bit and then go to the quieter walkthrough later but it would mean more effort for the video.

Great coverage. Indeed Cecily has quite the draftsmanship. There was a pastel drawing that was very impressive. Beautiful color blends and expressive marks. Thanks Kate! Thanks Loren!

A serendipity art reportage where the opening excitement contrasts well, l thought, to the more solitary meditative space suited to philosophical enquiry of early modernism, around when Descartes flourished as the philosopher/artist.

I believe the painting around the 13:00 mark is a study of the Jimi Hendrix "Electric Ladyland " album cover photograph. Thanks, James, for another great post!

Thanks Anthony, it's my mission to try and give viewers a glance into what's happening here in NYC. My question is: it seems like there's a big fan base for Cecily in CPT. How did that happen? Just curious about the flows and ebbs of culture...

Thanks for the video. I want to see this show. If I'm not mistaken it looks like Brown uses some kind of mechanical device to aid her in reproducing the work of the other artists. She outlines the projection of the original, then roughs up the image with brushy washes, textural effects, etc. She has a very nice touch with the materials when she keeps it loose. When she tightens up, not so much. Somebody should tell her to draw freehand if she's going to use figuration (my opinion) and trust to her touch. Anyway, nice video!

Utter crap. Cecily Brown has no drawing skills; she makes a habit of associating herself with past masters (name dropping) in order to seek legitimacy. Although she is the darling of the Modern art world, her work is that of a fifth grader - (no disrespect to fifth graders)! James Kalm: Learn how to hold a camera steady while filming! That's called Film 101!

Well it seems that I am going to be a black sheep amidst in coming down hard about these drawings by Cecily Brown. If one looks closely at the super crowded pieces that are supposed to blow you away with its bravado , everything falls apart into little mice droppings. Unlike the masters she refers to: both her paintings and drawings lack an understanding of harmony. An over active mind with little to really express with urgency. Most of the line quality is weak, lacking any inner life or conviction. Those containing explicit sexual content are oddly enough not revealing or provocative, at all. This may be because most everything she does comes from her head full of clever, ambitious ideas. But cleverness and some facility in rendering is not enough.
@casteretpollux4 жыл бұрын
She appears to be an immensely prolific and skilled painter who has learned from the past. There is still a superficiality.
@johncastle82546 жыл бұрын
