With the upcoming 150th anniversary in 2020, I have had these 1970 Cedar Point Radio Commercials digitized. I have added some of my favorite photos that I have personally taken over the last 10 years or so.
For Cedar Point's 100th anniversary, the park had a substantial expansion commonly refereed to at the Million Dollar Midway. They debuted the Centennial Theatre, WildCat roller coaster, Tiki Twirl,
Bayern Kurve, Dodgem, Schwabinchen, Himalaya, Monster,
Hofbrau, Cedar Point Summer Spectacular and a redesigned and enlarged Kiddieland. Cedar Point called it the "largest in the nation." It included 14 rides and a Lost Children's area.
In 1970, CP&LE railroad gave 4.5 million rides to its guests. The highest in it's history. This is largely due to the fact that it is one of only 2 ways for guests to get to Frontier Town. The other being the Frontier Lift.
1970 is the First year for a "ride-all-day" ticket
In 1970, Cedar Point begins to boast that they now have the largest ride capacity of any amusement park in the country.
At this point in the parks history, park employs about 3000 people each season. 90% of which are college students. The base pay is $1.70 per hour. The cost of room and board is $19.20 for employees working 48 hours a week.
