Is the first layer of underlayment an iceshield membrane? Do u need a breather under the cedar?

I have a question please. Is it recommended to do a partial shake replacement (perhaps 600 sf on a 1200 sf side of a house)? Specifically how is the mesh underlayment and roofing tarp paper aligned when trying to tie in existing shakes with new shakes over a large surface. Our concern being potential leaks where the new shakes abut with the existing shakes. Thanks. Nice Video!

Around 25 years, give or take a few years based on climate. Cedar is beautiful but it doesn't last that long

So you’re nailing that guide board right into the face of the shake? Is that leaving holes? How does that work?
@madknacker9 ай бұрын
The wood will swell and basically seal that hole. Should anyway.
