Getting repetition with specific names definitely helps. With assassination classroom, the characters just didn't say each others' names very often, so there weren't any reminders for the viewers.

Yeaaaah, that's confusing. Like, in Demon Slayer (at least on the Brazilian dub, that is, Idk about the other dubs) the characters are always called by their given name, at most their full name, never just the family name, and they don't keep switching around; that makes it stick. On the other hand, when I went to read/watch Mo Dao Zu Shi (it's Chinese, but I think it's still relevant here) it took me foreeever to really associate the names because there's their given name, family name, and courtesy name; plus the titles! So, sometimes some characters are called by their full normal name, sometimes by their courtesy name, sometimes by a title, with someone of the older ones you have "madam name" or something like that, and there's even the family honourifics like one of the protagonist being called shifu which means paternal uncle, or the occasional A-"shortening of the name" when referring to a child, nephew/niece or sibling. Like, just the two main protagonists have the following names and titles: Normal name: Wei Ying Courtesy name: Wei Wuxian Title: Yiling Laozu (Yiling Patriarch) - Normal name: Lan Zhan Courtesy name: Lan Wangji Title: Hanguang-jun (Light Bearing Lord) Plus, from what I rememeber, he's sometimes called second jade of Gusu (his brother is the first, together they're the two jades) due to his pale skin (white jade, in this case), so there goes another nickname. Do you see how confusing this gets once you keep adding up characters? There's about 5 main clans on the story plot and at least like 3-5 very plot relevant characters per clan, not to mention all the minor and side characters, and the fact that a good part of those are interconnected in some way due to marriages between clans making characters of completely different clan relatives; and sometimes characters of the same clan are unrelated or don't even have the same surname due to different families in the same clan, or having been taken in and being basically adopted but not quite... Just so you know, in the edition of the novel that my cousin lent me, there's literally a guide on the back not only explaining some cultural references to give you context (cause they were too long for page footnotes) but there's also a full guide with all the characters names, their relations, positions, possessions, etc., in case you get lost with who's who.

Frieren means to freeze, Stark means strong, fern means distant. I mean if you watch the series in german dub or read it in german, than it all sounds out of place and on the nose. Yeah Lügner means Liar, not in a metaphorical way but literary like all the names in the series. Imagnie how big of the plottwist it was for me to find out that the demon named lügner is bad. I just wanted to point out that. While you comment is valid it still has its downside for people who speak the language. I think Attack on titan implements the german names better, because these are actual names that could be used by german people. But on the other hand Attack on titan has the simular issue using names that are to difficult to remember.

Wei Ying is his birth name. Wei Wuxian is his courtesy name which is an old tradition of Chinese culture. It makes sense as Xianxia is usually settled in old China. A-Xian and Xianxian are just affectionate nicknames, kinda like how Nana, Tsunayoshi’s mother calls him Tsuna-kun. Meanwhile, Yiling Laozu/Yiling Patriarch and Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation are titles. It's like how in One Piece, Edward Newgate has his moniker as Whitebeard but he also being known as the Strongest Man In The World. And yes! The way characters address others based on their relationships is a vital point of it. Because it shows the readers the nature of the relationship between the two characters and how the way they address each other also changes as their relationship changes. Wei Wuxian has so many names/nicknames/titles to be addressed by is because he is the main character and we got to see him and his relationships the most. Also him and Lan Wangji having so many titles is showing how powerful and big their influence is.
